650ml bottle - man, it seems like they're applying this whole 'brut' thing to practically every style now.
This beer pours a mostly clear, pale golden yellow colour, with two fingers of puffy, rocky, and mildly fizzy dirty white head, which leaves some nice banded frilly lace around the glass as it quickly evaporates.
It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, pink bubblegum, mixed domestic citrus rind, some earthy lager yeastiness, and subtle leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy pale malt, orange and red grapefruit peel, simple syrup, a bit of damp minerality, and more understated leafy, musty, and resinous piney hoppiness.
The carbonation is average in its palate-pleasing frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and generally smooth, with nothing really a cause for concern at this particular juncture. It finishes trending dry, of course, the generic frooty character predominating.
Overall - well, this is one of the better offerings to come out of GIB's Small Batch series in recent memory. Perhaps not all that akin to a 'fine champagne', as per their marketing shtick, but nonetheless a nice hoppy brew, with a more or less integrated extra 2 and a half points or so of the ol' wowee sauce.
