Granville Is 'Uncle Monty's Best Bitter' @ 3.6% from the Black Note Book Series served from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $5

A-pour is a light/pale gold from the bottle to a clear amber in the glass with a big frothey off white head (carefull when pouring tilt the glass) that is leaving a streaky lace along the pint

S-big floral & citrus , couple of floaters along for the ride on the second pour

T-not quite 'ESB' quality , butt a smooth start , with a lingering bitter finish

MF-ok/medium carbonation , weak medium body , my mouth is really dry as the contents of the bottle are dissappearing/consumed

Ov-ok beer , would have been better fresh , looking forward to giving GI 'Mad Dash ESB' a try

A - clear deep cooper, thumb of off white head held its own nicely with some decent lacing
S - big hit of pink grapefruit and mandarin citrus, light peppery notes create some contrast
T - same citrus notes as the nose are more in check and balanced with some peppery and earthy notes, rye like grainy malt backbone
M - relatively light and bubbly, easy drinking however the bitterness is lacking on the feel
O - a tasty and well balance bitter, the lower alcohol goes unnoticed, I generally prefer a little more bite in my bitters, but this is a nice easy sipper with the flavour of a bigger brew

Passed over the bottle several times but figured I'd snag this on tap as part of a flight. Dude on the label (Monty) looks like a psychotic old guy who looks at too much internet porn but that's neither here nor there. The beer itself did not look too shabby, dark amber/brown with mocha head. Aroma was fruity and sweet, minimal malt. Others taste citrus in this but I struggled to do so. Got lots of strawberry/bramble fruit, little nuttiness. The alcohol was well concealed but there was only fruit and almost no malt or nuts which ought to show up in a bitter. I echo other reviewers in noticing a thin body. Mouthfeel a little cream ale like. Low ABV suggests a mild rather than a brown. Honestly a bit insipid. Might try again and will revise review accordingly if needed.

Pours a clear (but not crystal) dark amber with a finger of off-white head, decent retention. Aroma is big on grapefruit, if I didn't know any better I would think I was smelling a bowl of grapefruit. A couple other citrus notes take a back seat and a faint caramel malt pokes through. Taste follows with big citrus and faint malt. Very thin in mouthfeel, but bitter.

Overall I liked the appearance and smell, but it fell flat otherwise. The beer was thin and didn't have the body of an English Bitter (I blame the use of BC pale malt). Definitely did not remind me of my boisterous English uncle. Just because it's a session beer doesn't mean it shouldn't have some body.

650ml bottle. A low-ABV, English pub-style bitter, apparently straight from the notebook of GIB's brewmaster - aren't all of any brewery's products produced in this way?

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium copper amber colour, with two fingers of densely puffy, caked ecru head, which leaves a thick band of limestone cliff lace around the glass as it slowly and evenly abates.

It smells of prominent citrus rind - grapefruit and mandarin orange - musty pine needle, crisp biscuity, somewhat meaty pale malt, and a further neutered lemon fruitiness. The taste is more musty orange and stale grapefruit peel, a slightly gamey yeastiness, mild pale malt, fairly stripped of its heretofore promising biscuity character, but with a lightly burgeoning caramel twinge, and further tame grassy, wet piney notes.

The carbonation is generally quite soft, no grandiose sweeps here, the body medium-light in weight, with enough hoppy prickliness to take a big chunk out of the smoothness, just like a big-boy beer! It finishes slightly off-dry, the malt straining to keep up, a sort of unnecessary gesture in the face of the waning nature of the hops.

A decently flavourful best bitter, the well-lowered alcohol not really missed here, as the malt and hops have much to say in their normal ally's absence. Adequately positioned as a pub sessioner, that's for certain, but somehow I don't see Molson/Granville having the brains to get that done anytime soon.
