appearance: Amber colored practically no head. Jusrt a small amount of white head gone quickly.

smell: Vanilla, Oak, and Carmel.

taste: Rich and delicious carmel followed by oak and vanilla! Man thats tasty! Once again lack of bitter flavor from hops, but that flavor is not needeed for this beer!

mouthfeel: Ridicoulsly SMOOTH! Man this 3 plus years of barrel aging made this one of the smoothest barleywines i have had in a while! Thanks Tyranena for the patience on leaving this beer in the barrel! Not much carbonation, but appropriate for this beer style.

drinkability: No harsh booziness here either! I could sit down to a few of these 9% beers, but it could sneak up on you fast!

Loved this beer! I wish I lived closer to tyranena! Best American Barleywine I have ever drank to this date!

Sampled at the Brewpub. Kudos to them for handing out full pints of this stuff. It killed us--it killed us all--but kudos to them for letting us kill ourselves.

Pours amber orange, thick as blood. Very hazy, even for a Barleywine. The kind of beer you see from across the room and whisper about it to your friends, hoping it will look over and make eye contact with you. Then you remember that it's a beer, not a lady, and you feel ashamed.

Smells bold and smooth. I would have named it "Bold 'n Smooth: A Barleywine for Gentlemen." Closest comparison is oaked Behemoth. Smooth woodiness, whiskey, a little bit of fire, cedar, vanilla, and alcohol.

Tastes as it smells, only not quite so intense. It's so smooth it's like you're drinking woody silk, and that's almost terrifying, why this beer is as dangerous as a really sharp knife.

Had at the brewery recently. While the non-barrel aged version was 9%, I was told by the head brewer that it is well over 10%. From notes:

A: Non-pretentious, but peculiar. Dark brown, with no head.

S: HUGE bourbon character, with a truckload or two of vanilla, oak, and caramel.

T: Rich, sweet bourbon--huge dose of vanilla, oak, sweet caramel. Fantastic. So rich, but not overwhelming. Alcohol is there but is tamed (4 years in a bourbon barrel should do it).

I enjoyed this barrel aged barleywine to the fullest extent possible. Truly a piece of work, I wish they had enough to bottle it...

I had this in a plastic cup from a growler at a beer event today.
Thanks to Heritage for letting me try this!

Nice transparent copper in color with a decent cap of off white head.
Medium drapes of lace, in this plastic cup that I wish were a glass tulip.

Aroma is very much bready yeasty dough with a sourdough snap. Good amount of fruity apples in there and some citrus like lemy smell.
Some spice and a tad bit of grapefruity hops. Just a wif of warm alcahol notes at the nose. Hints of oak and buttered toast.

Sweet upfront with a warm alcahol presence. Smooth creamy carbonation.
A little bit of minerally water flavors. More fruits, aplles and grapefruit, some clover honey and grassy hops. And then, wham! at the swallow the oak notifies you of its presence. It really had not been around and I was wondering where it was. But as you swallow it really comes into play. Then, just as soon as I noticed it, it was gone.
Truley delicious and well balanced.

This is quite sweet and fruity, with almost a cider likeness at first sip. Well balanced brew, happy I could try it.
