Drove from Illinois up to Lake Mills for this tasty treat after getting the weekly newsletter the day before!
Appearance: black with not much cream / tan colored head. good lacing on the glass!
smells: oaky goodness right away. Bourbon and smells more boozey than the taste.
taste: Chocolatey, cocoa, and oaky goodness; balanced very well. Some vanilla hiding in there at the beginning and end of the taste. Caramel, some bourbon, and nice malty beer no hops flavor for balance, but beer is not cloyingly sweet at any time.
Mouthfeel & Drinkability: Smooth and very drinkable! This beer is a 50% blend of Doubly Down and Dirty (7-8%ABV) and Spank me baby (9% ABV) both brewers gone wild series beers. Very smooth at no point is the booziness overpowering, but very subtle. could drink 2 or 3 in a sitting! Carbonation is just right.
Worth the long drive to try this beer! I want to head back up for beer before they are all out! Great idea to mix a barleywine that has aged for 3plus year in an oak barrel and a double american stout. Brewers Gone wild series is my favorite part of Tyranena!
