A nice looking brew, browner than expected, almost chestnut. Decent one finger head, retention was so so, but hey, this was poured from a growler which was filled last night at the Deepwater. Already leaving some intricate sticky lace as the head recedes.
Nutty, roasted malts and fruity esters hinting at raisins. A tart and earthy pungency also present, and makes a nice counterpoint to the rich malt. A floral bitterness also present.
This is an interesting brew from South Shore. Im not used to the rich roasted malts in a saison (or the bartender's pronunciation, "sayzon"). But this is working quite nicely for me. Rich and nutty malts, with a solid dose of toffee meet big fruity esters and a hint of phenols. Sultana raisins and a touch of clove. Mild earthy funk from the yeast, and probably also the bittering hops. A hint of lemon also present.
Almost medium bodied and slightly creamy. Would prefer a touch lighter body with more effervescence, but this is a pretty tasty brew. A touch more attenuation would have been nice, but the roasted malts probably bring more unfermentable sugar to the mix anyways. Anyways these are just my quibbles, this is a tasty brew and it will be my pleasure to work my way through the growler as the kids watch Twilight.
Yes this is a tasty and drinkable brew. The 7% ABV is extremely well hidden. Im impressed by the draft only available options from this brewery, after enjoying some of their bottled offerings. Reminds me of a slightly less funky Ovni from Flat Earth. There should be a trading market for the draft only brews from South Shore, im impressed and recommend this as well as the Pale Ale i tried yesterday. Good stuff.

On tap at the Deepwater Grille. Served in a pint-sized snifter glass. Cloudy, tarnslucent amber -brown, with a tawny foam that recedes eventually.
This beer smells estery, a bit like a bavarian wheat with banana and clove.
The taste is initially sweet, then peppery, with maybe an alcoholic bitterness to it. The finish is earthy, chalky, dry.
There is a thicker mouthfeel to this which I do not think is to style, though I am no expert on this style. Still, reasonably drinkable, considering the ABV.
