440ml can.
L: Hazy, dark gold with clouds of carbonation and a thick, long-lasting head.
S: Light citrus.
T: Yellow grapefruit & pine with just enough sweet, pale malt base to balance the bitterness.
F: Medium body with a hot, dry, hoppy finish.
O: A refreshing and sessionable AIPA. Mouthfeel is good for the low ABV.
(Not sure why other reviews are so critical of this beer. They seem to be complaining it’s not like an English bitter which is a bit odd given it’s not an English bitter)

L- Mid gold, quite cloudy, huge pillowy white head that holds well.
S- Prominent lychee and grapefruit/citrus.
T- Grapefruit, OTT, more grapefruit. 3rd sip, slightly less prominent now more broad citric dry and sour.
F- Dry. palate stripping, mono-dimensional.
O- Apart from the colour and head this drink does not in any way resemble beer. No apparent malts, or beer-like taste. Not something I'd repeat.
Waitrose, £3, 440ml can. BB. 1/5/2020

I've had this ale before... the IPA that tries too hard. Trying too hard makes an ale average... at best.
But, Dark Star's Session IPA does Look decent (mostly lace); making it slightly above average. Smell of fruity hops and malt being worked into fruit are slightly better. But by the time it gets to Taste, the bitter hops control the show, push the malt away and send my buds to oblivion. I would be refreshed, except for the bitter after-taste. I drank half and gave the rest to the drain.
Started 22 years ago and owned by Asahi for a while and sold to Fullers in 2018, Dark Star has been around the globe and back. I suspect they were in the generation to break out of the CAMRA mold of balanced regional beers and, instead, appeal to the hoppier, American-ish palate. Given that Dark Star couldn't make Asahi's standard ROI, it seems they should have charted a different course.
