Not bad, but there are way too many good North American pale ales out there that are better. Maybe that's why they retired it?

L: crystal-clear, dull medium-dark amber liquid... almost a finger width of weak foam forms and deflates... thin foamy cap lingers for awhile... looks a little to cleanly-polished for my taste - def ain't real ale here... little lacing
S: smells quite fine - better than most U.S. attempts... this is malt-forward, with surely some spicy hop highlights... the esters are kickin' with spiced apple, turbinado syrup, maybe even some fresh red grape... a lovely, rich dark caramel aroma builds as the foam subsides - familiar in its tones, as far as the lot of British pales that make it over here... there are some notes of leaf and twig that poke out from underneath
T: quite malt-rich, though fairly light and clean - immediately, I'd say this reminds me of mildly huskier Old Speckled Hen... the bitterness is a little more pronounced than I'm used to with these dusty old Brit pales - perhaps this is a newer bottle?... the bitterness lasts long and the finish and aftertaste have rather bold green-leafy, woody flavors... definitely a thread of dark caramel and lightly-burnt toasty grain in the finish
F: as it would appear, the drinking is clean and smooth... approaching medium-bodied... feels like some residual resins and dextrins take their time sliding back, surely with some mild stickiness, but the back end of the finish feels relatively dry
O: nothing terribly distinct about its taste, aside from the somewhat fresh pop of its bitter hop elements... being a Heineken product, it'd be interesting to see if this will make it to draft anywhere - I would definitely choose this over say Smithwick's

I really think New Castle in the UK is a different brew or I have become more of a snob with my beer. For not being very strong it certainly had a strong alcohol taste and honestly I didn't enjoy this beer at all.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, orange golden hue with a small, white head of soapy foam. It smelled of bready malts and sweet caramel. There was an earthy, herbal hop presence. It tasted of subtle, spicy/earthy hops and a sweet caramel malt backbone.

Newcastle British Pale Ale brewed by Heineken Nederland B.V., with an ABV of 5.80% This brew pours out a nice light brown color, with a nice white head. The smell is rich with grains and malts. You also pick up a nice sweetness in Newcastle British Pale Ale . Now for the taste it bold with flavors. You pick up on grains and malts. There is also a bit of bitterness to this brew. You really can't pick up on the 5.8% in this brew, it nice and smooth. I like how this brew is different from most on the market. Newcastle British Pale Ale has a nice balance to it, there is nothing overpowering about this brew. The mouthfeel is bold ,smooth ,and rich. Heineken Nederland B.V., did a nice job with this one. I would buy this brew again. Overall I'm giving this brew a 4 out of 5. Thank You Heineken Nederland B.V.
