330 ml bottle, poured into wine glass
cloudy medium yellow golden, thick off-white colored head. mild aroma is classic American "C" hops - grassy, pine, citrus. similar flavor, medium bitterness. overall is okay for a take on an American beer but needs some work to stand up to the classic "New World" Pale Ales.

Looks just fine in the glass, translucent yellow with a two finger white head, a little yellowed than the average pale ale maybe, but otherwise unremarkable. I don't generally like most American hops, but the nose is not bad, inviting even. There is a bit of doughy malt peeking through, but mostly those American hops, which give mostly pine and citrus notes. The taste follows exactly. Starts with malt, quickly showed aside by pine and citrus hops, and then a faint but lingering note of mosquito repellent on the finish. It sounds worse than it actually is because the hops are at least not excessively strong. Overall it's an okay beer, definitely drinkable, interesting I guess if you're into New World hops, otherwise just tolerable.

A very clear and crisp pale ale, with herbal aromas, moderate bitterness and very refreshing.

Classic Grapefruit hops, lots of carbonation, balancing malt sweetness with comforting hop bitterness.

330ml bottle. Austrian lager meets American pale ale. Result is a bit of nothing. Looks good and is moderately bitter but malt flavour is invisible and hop flavour is difficult to pin down (lemony, herbal).

330ml bottle, another cast-off from the Stiegl holiday mixed pack of last year - 'a beer for explorers', or something to that effect.
This beer pours a slightly hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with four fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and mildly bubbly off-white head, which leaves some splendid dense tree copse lace around the glass as it slowly sinks out of sight.
It smells of grainy and crackery cereal malt, some gentle pine resin, a muddled tropical fruitiness, and more tame leafy, herbal, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, a touch of wet saltine cracker, indistinct domestic citrus rind, light notes of generic herbal tea, and a further earthy, musty, and floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly laid-back in its benign frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and a tad watery-seeming in its attempt at smoothness. It finishes off-dry, a bit of lingering fruity esters helping out the fading malt sweetness.
Overall - this is a refreshing enough version of the style, however the flavour kind of falls flat to this observer. Yeah, sort of plain, with the hop bitterness quickly disappearing as this offering moves along. Keep looking, Christopher, you're bound to find some better stuff out there.
