Pours a large fizzy foamy 2+ finger off-white head with fair retention, decent lacing, very dark basically black color

Nose a bit of roast and coffee, dark chocolate fudgey notes, a little acrid roast, plenty of baking spices and candy bar spices, cola nut, cocoa, \

Taste very higher carb makes it hard to sip as it becomes mostly foamy, when that dissolves more dark chocolate, cocoa, a bit of acrid roast and almost char like, rich dark malt toasted chocolate cereal, various spices, a little yeast that continued to grow in the bottle, a bit too bottled conditioned, fair bitterness with a touch of spicy hop, Belgian fruity esters, semi dry finish

Mouth is med to a bit fuller bod, very high distracting level of carb

Overall mixed, seems like it has a good base stout, Belgian influences, a bit maybe too roasty acrid, but what is difficult about this beer is the super high carbonation and yeasty character, it was clearly aged on it's side, but straight up on the store shelf, so maybe that is a factor

this is wonderful beer, absolutely lights out, didnt know these guys made a stout, and it reminds me of buffalo belgian stout from van den bossche, a long lost favorite that really is the most similar thing to this i can think of, but its been forever since i have had or seen that one, just carved out a special spot in my brain that this one took me to instantly. its so unique from what any american would expect from strong stout, a total departure, and sort of blends elements of stout, belgian dark strong, and farmhouse saison together, this is fermentation forward, fully effervescent, and lighter in both body and roast than is common in stout as we on this side of the pond anyway typically know it to be, i absolutely adored this. brown more than black, matte with some mild cloudiness to it, a gorgeous high khaki head and obviously fabulous bottle conditioning, no surprise from these guys, there are some real similarities with their other beers to me, the effervescence is one of them. aroma of rustic old farmy yeast, the ferment is more a part of this than is common in stout, i love it, light funk without brett, bone dry, some roast to this, coffee, tobacco, light licorice type spice too, cola, oak, very interesting, nice mix of malts beyond just the dark stuff, seems wheaty to me, nice minerality, clay-like, with nuances of sawdust and flattering green glass character coming out a bit as it warms, bready and old worldy and just insanely complex, i dont miss more roasted bitterness or anything, and am happy to appreciate this as an entirely different take on stout, which it surely is. the flavor is as nuanced as the aroma, woody and funky, no sign of its alcohol strength at all, a molasses element but not sweet even in the center of it, some nuttiness, hearth bread, almost saison yeast level rustic spicy funkiness, peppery, so excited in texture its kind of hard to keep my mouth closed and get it down, its explosive on each sip, gives a lot of life to a beer that tastes quite mature, love that. there is pipe tobacco, white pepper, and clove to me, and there is a little bit of bitterness too, i taste a little more each sip, and the body is light for the style but medium overall, made almost light by the bubbles, champagne level. it has a kind of cumulative effect too, like each sip kind of builds on the last, increasing flavor potency that way somehow, cool. some people will not get this, i know that, but for me this is super special, kind of dark strong saison in a way, the bottle conditioning is epic, and the flavors of this are very interesting. one of my favorite beers ive had so far this year. if you know this brewery at all, you will appreciate the continuity from the rest of their range into this one, majorly delicious.

Look: It pours very dark brown with a tan head. It has good head retention.

Smell: It has strong roasted aromas up front with some slight burnt notes. There are some dark fruits most resembling a combination of plums and figs. There is a very low perfumy like note in support.

Taste: There are strong roasted flavors with a slight burnt quality. There are some low coffee elements with some earthly qualities. There are very low dark fruits.

Feel: It has a full body with pleasant warming.

Overall: It has some good roasted flavors with coffee elements.

Bought from Chicago's Beer Temple in perhaps my last beer run there since I'm moving shortly.
Brasserie Blaugies' Blidegarian is better as it warms, particularly its mouthfeel.

While it is hard for 9% ABV to keep its foam, this AIS does a pretty good job. Aromatics are tame, only slightly above average. Tastes are balanced, enough roasty-toasty malt to give me some bittersweet. As it eventually gets warm, it gets softer, almost a creamy transformation... but coming out just after being uncorked, Blidegarian is rough.

I give considerable Overall Hugs to Blaugies for being a late 20th Century pioneering farmhouse near the French border, a husband-wife team that has a following and over two decades have opened a restaurant as well; producing near classic saisons and, I presume in pairing, some equally excellent dishes. I'm glad they found a new importer to the U.S. to replace Shelton Bros.

Unknown vintage; drank 10/29/24 @ the Yarchives.

Muddy brown appearance.

A slow pour yielded a big, noisy tan head; minimal lacing remained.

Light roast coffee bean, mild mineral water & faint tart cherry notes in the nose.

Creamy medium mouthfeel with some carbonation bite at the end.

Medium roast coffee bean & faint fresh earth flavors up front; mild cream & faint mineral water notes on the finish.

Balanced, challenging & overall interesting. It's not perfect but it's intriguing!

Onsite bottle at Monk’s Café in Philadelphia, PA.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like smoke, roasted malt, and some light chocolate.

Blaugies is a great brewery, but this stout didn’t do a lot for me. It tastes watery, and just in general tastes “thin” and “wispy”. There’s licorice, and a dry roastiness, with a flavor almost akin to ink. It’s hard to describe, but I don’t like it.

This is lighter bodied, not quite creamy enough, but not all that boozy.

I’m guessing that Blaugies is better at saisons, I didn’t really love this one.

Blidegarian Imperial Stout
375 ml. bottle with no discernible date.

Moderate pour yields a 1 & a 1/2 inch tan head over a near black body with scant lacing.
Head recedes down to a thin cap in a few minutes.

Nose of bitter chocolate and bitter coffee.

Taste is bitter chocolate, bitter coffee, milk chocolate, malted milk.
As it warms, flavors improve greatly and becomes less bitter.

Nice mouthfeel with low to medium carbonation.

Overall, this is much better at about 50-55 F.
Flavors are hidden at colder temps.
That being said, I like it and would recommend.!
Cheers!!
