Picked-up a single as part of a mixed six-pack at Kappy's in Norwell. No canned-on date + last review almost one year old = uh oh. Despite the red flags, this was pretty solid. I don't see Cape Ann brews that often, but I have liked the ones that I have tried - would buy this again.

On-tap 2/7/2016 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a tapered pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep golden brown color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is faint but contains earthy hops, citrus and caramelized malts.
T: The taste starts out sweet with strong flavors of fruity citrus and caramel. Then a strong but not over-powering hops bitterness comes in. The malt character is hearty and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

Appearance: Amber orange with golden hues and a two finger head that is off white and leaves thick lacing as it thins out.
Aroma: Lots of grapefruit citrus hops right up front with underlying piney notes. The malts let out a light caramel note with wisps of biscuit.
Taste: Quite a wave of hops right from the get go. Grapefruit, piney, little bit of biscuit in the back. The mouthfeel has a light stickiness but finishes smooth.
Notes: A top notch example of an American Pale Lager. Not only is this a very tasty brew but my favorite part is that it's a Lager and it's nice to see another one on the market. Cheers.

A decent APL, pours with a 2 inch head that sticks around for a while. It's different from the last time I've had this beer, the hops just don't jump out of the can anymore. Not sure what's going on, maybe this is an old batch.

from a 16oz can into a pint tulip
look; orangy copper, medium amount of medium sized bubbles, 1 1/4" frothy lumpy head, good retention and plenty of lacing
smell; sweet bready malt, some burnt caramel
taste; sweet honey burnt caramel sweet roll, hint of acrid bitterness, there's hops in this, nice piney kick but more complex than that with hints of herb and citrus, finish is outstanding when all flavors come together
feel; medium bodied, smooooth and carbonated and a bit bitter on the finish of the finish
overall; i really love how this comes together, it achieves some pretty extreme contrasts without feeling extreme or discombobulated, very well balanced and yet a bit wild. i know that sounds like bulls%#@ but taste this and tell me i'm wrong, looking to get more of this!

16oz can poured into a lager glass.
A: Red-orange color, great clarity. Rocky head sticks everywhere.
S: Sweet malt base with notes of bread, toast, and caramel. Very slight whiff of alcohol. Fruity gummy bear sort of scent. Candied orange. Sweet bud and a bit herbal in the background too.
T: Full bread and toasty malt base with hints of caramel. Orange gummy wedges. Candied orange peel. Slight prick of alcohol. Hops build on the back end with a cannabis/herbal impression that rolls right into the finish.
M: Full and round malty feel. Medium bodied. Creamy and smooth. Stiff prickling carbonation.
O: A full and substantial lager with generous hopping- we're approaching IPL territory here. In fact, that's probably how they should have branded it. It's a hot style right now. Additionally, calling this an 'Atlantic Pale Lager' sends consumer expectations in the wrong direction. This is quite a bit more hoppy and big-boned than most pale lagers on the market. Whatever the case, it's a clean and tasty brew and its more bold and substantial nature does suit the cooler weather.
