A silky, big brew with notes of citrus and pine, and an excellent bitter bite at the finish. Well-hopped with Citra, Columbus and Nelson Sauvin, plus dry-hopped with Citra, Simcoe and Cascade. Flaked oats give it a smooth mouth feel and great head retention.
Flavor: Smooth and silky, with citrus notes and a nice bitter bite at the finish.
Malts: UK Pale, German Vienna, Flaked Oats
Hops: Citra, Cascade, Simcoe, Columbus, Nelson Sauvin
Bitterness Units: 80

Note via stream of consciousness: Labeled at 8.2% ABV with 90 IBUs. It's poured a hazy amber0orange body beneath a finger's width of off-white foam. I'm guessing there's some dark malt in there. Yeah, the label lists pale, Munich, Vienna, and flaked oats. In the nose I'm getting citrusy/tropical notes over a bready and toasty malt base. On to the taste - it's definitely bitter! The malt follows the aroma, and it's sweetish and bready/toasty but I'm not getting any oats. The hops remain citrusy (orange, grapefruit) and otherwise tropical (peach, melon, berries, passion fruit), but they're also floral, earthy, peppery, and "dank" or resinous. It's an interesting cross between an old school IPA and a modern one. What are the hops? Citra, Columbus, and Mosaic. I wouldn't have guessed Mosaic but it's on the label. Citra, of course, but I think the other hops have reined them in a little bit. I like it, but I'm an old school IPA drinker so that makes sense. It finishes dry, bitter, and peppery/spicy with earthiness and pine-like resins lingering once a dollop of sweet malt fades. The alcohol is clear but not overt, and it has to be adding to the peppery spiciness and dry finish. This is not a session beer by any stretch of the imagination, but neither is a sipper as some double IPAs can be. What was the alcohol content? Ahhh, it's 8.2% ABV; I was thinking for some reason that it might have been a bit higher. They've done a great job balancing it so that it's sweetish up front but then dry in the finish. In the mouth it's medium-full in body and gently crisp but also with a little bit of zest from the alcohol and a light bit of "hop burn". I think that the malt bill and hop selection complement each other perfectly. If there's a negative here it's that the head retention and lacing could both be better but that's quite often the case with beers above 8% ABV. Nicely done.

I’m editing my review of this IPA from last year as it seems that they’ve made some improvements.
