DATE: February 4, 2021... OCCASION: spending the night looking through fifty years' worth of photos for Dad's funeral pictures with Mom and Jer--bittersweet moments... GLASSWARE: "R" pilsner, in honor of my dad.... pours a copper-orange body, clearly displaying its staid, settled energy... its head is a soapy half-finger of white that rings quickly... not lively, but heartily colored... unexpected--cinnamon, toasted read malts, caramel, and nutmeg make a holiday atmosphere, even in February... nothing too intense here, though... like many of the Barley Creek products, this is smooth if not water-laden, easy if not forgettable...it exits swiftly, leaving only a modicum of its flavor behind... speaking of, the nutmeg and cinnamon are appreciable but fleeting... the caramel is slight, and the toasted malts dissipate... I do like its alcohol content--drinkable but effecting halfway into the growler--buttery and tea-like, this mellows with each glass... I feel BC has an expected ceiling and floor in almost every beer they produce--limited but not without worth...
