22 oz bottle purchased at the brewery for $3.49 in May, 2006. Consumed at home a few days later.
Pours a dark brown- tea-like with a medium off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt, slightly toasty, and slightly sweet. The flavor is rich malts, toffee-like, slightly alcoholic mouthfeel. For a bitter, it's not really all that bitter- hops are present but very weak. Subtle as expected for English styles, but perhaps this is an old bottle that has lost its freshness? Next time I'm in Sacramento, I am interested to see if it's on tap, I think it might be much better that way.
