Beer is black with a tan head. Good retention and lacing.
Smell is very unique. There is a roasted malt scent typical of a stout, but it is coupled with some sourness, green grapes and pear. These more typical saison scents become more pronounced as the beer opens up.
Taste is similar to the nose, but not as enjoyable. The roasted malt takes a bit of a back seat, and the sourness steps up. The grape and pear still come through.
Beer is light bodied, with minimal carbonation.
Overall. a rather unique beer to my tastes, but not a great beer. Enjoyable but not something I will run back to quickly.

On tap at Volo, for the House Ales launch party. Served in a tulip.
Poured a very dark brown, with a transient offwhite head, with a ring of head retained. Struggles quite a bit to regenerate a head with some swirls of the glass. Nose has some banana peel, light chocolate, some rye (maybe?) and milder spice notes. Taste holds some wheat, mild spice, some chocolate and hints of clove. More spice in the finish, and hints of cinnamon. Interesting hefe-like notes throughout, I thought. Mouthfeel is low in carbonation, and too low for my liking in the traditional saison style. Decent, and my first foray into the "Black Saison" category, although I'm not confident I'm sold on it...

House Ales Fest at Volo. Not too saison like, a little mediocre for style. Dark colour, no head. Some hoppiness, the main characteristic. where is the spice. would like some funky yeast and aromas. Average mouthfeel. Disapointing for Biergotter.Passable drinkability.
