Look: 3.75
Dark copper color. 1-2 finger head at first, but recedes quickly. Bubbles seem abnormally large and it is pretty interesting.
Smell: 3.75
A bit earthy and sweet. A slight Belgian Tripel / Dubbel aroma.
Taste: 3.5
Blast of spice and malt. This one tastes more like a Belgian beer than a German beer to me. Slight metallic taste. Pretty light on flavor / watery. Some decent flavors of spice and yeast, but could be fuller. I do get some rye / pumpernickel flavors in there.
Feel: 3.25
Lighter side of Medium / almost Light. Seems a bit too thin and light. Carbonation leaves halfway through the drinking experience. More carbonation would result in a higher score.
Overall: 3.5
Not what I was expecting. A bit too earthy and Belgian-like. I was expecting more of a spicy tasting “Oktoberfest” style beer. Didn’t strike me as a lager type brew – needs to be a bit crisper. Maybe fermenting it at a lower temperature would help.

Somewhat cloudy, brownish-orange body; thin head with some lacing along the glass; the head remains somewhat thicker and creamier after warming up in the bottle yet still thins out considerably after a couple of minutes. Spicy, malty aroma; rich and earthy smelling. Big rye flavor; dark rye bread; spicy, like anise and cinnamon. Heavy, coarse body; crisp and mostly dry finish.
Low points for the thin head, but at least it's lasting, yet who cares about that when you have a beer that delivers a huge, spicy rye flavor and aroma. This is probably one of the most pronounced rye flavor beers I have had. It reminds me of very dark, rich German rye bread. Very interesting and very good.
