Hops: Mosaic, Azacca, Huell Melon, Mandarina Bavaria
Tasting Notes: The final installment in our Mosaic Series, Social Unit showcases what Mosaic hops can do as a supporting player to this all-star cast of hops. Azacca, Huell Melon, and Mandarina Bavaria join forces with Mosaic in this 6.2% NEIPA. An intense fruity aroma leads you into a hop-forward pop of melon with notes of tangerine and stone fruit.
Did You Know: The whale showcased on the can label is our state animal, the sperm whale. To learn more about how you can help save the sound, check out ctenvironment.org. There is no date stamp on this can, not anywhere, so no telling when it was canned.
A - Medium orange color and very hazy with a thick and dense layer of white foam that hangs on top.
S - Aroma is faint pithy citrus with light acidity and some sweet malt.
T - Sweet malt and light sweet citrus with a slight cardboard presence. There is a very small amount of spicy citrus that emerges on the back end.
M - Big medium body with light pricklies on the tongue.
O - Tastes very stale. I'd be more than happy to revisit this review with a fresher can. It would also be helpful if there was a date stamp on the can.

16 oz can into chalice. Dated 5/14/19.
Look is very nice hazy yellow with orange tint. Smell is tangerine, orange, sweet. Taste follows nose with melon, orange, tangerine and a little pine at end. Feel is light to medium. Overall a nice NE IPA. Don't know if I'd seek it out though.

Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip. Cool whale artwork on the can.
L: Hazed light golden pour with thick fluffy white head. Sticky lacing.
S: Citrus and tropical fruit.
T.F: Sweet and fruity up front. Pineapple, peach, and mango. Lighter grapefruit. Creamy carbonation. Medium to light bodied.
O: A solid and easy-drinking NEIPA. Above average beer... one I'd have again.

Canned 10-15-18
L: Pours hazy straw colored. Light head, light lacing.
S: Definitely new aroma's for me. Mild pine, citrus, fruit, and a good bit of melon. Something is sitting down deep, almost a wine-like aroma. I also pulled some berry components out. Different!
T: Very sweet at first.. then moving to pine, earthy tropical..citrus and something odd (not bad, just new to me).
F: Subtle carbonation gives way to a smack of bitterness, that is short lived. Rather thin MF.
O: At 1st glance, I wasn't sure how they call this a NEIPA.. it's not as smooth, rather thin.. and a bit more bitter than I'm accustomed to. I have no idea where boundaries lie anymore. I've had quite a few of CVBC beers before, and this one breaks new ground for me. New hop combo as well. I do like it, but had no clue what to think for 1/3 of it.
