billed as a hoppy saison, not a bad beer, but also too clean to really hit as a farmhouse, more of a hoppy belgian golden, and i probably would have liked it better in that context. yes it appears to be wheat based, and yeah it has some estery spiciness that could fit as a saison strain, but its got so much of that bubblegum and phenolic character going on that my nose and taste tell me pure belgian yeast run warm. the hops add a lot to this too, juicy and citrus forward, pretty complimentary and only a little bit bitter. there is an orange hue to this but it ends up not really being indicative of this being malty, it still tastes pale, has some minerality, and just a bit of late sweetness, nothing out of place really just a shade richer looking than anticipated. the hops bring orange and candied lemon to the aroma and flavor while the yeast brings green apple, poached pear, and sauvignon blanc notes, white florals as it warms. flavorful and actually pretty solid, but i wish the yeast was either more complex or toned down a little bit, even with all the hops it approaches dominant, and more bubbles would make it sing too. they could have done a little better here i think, but its a fun offering that hits right for this time of year.
