A slightly caramel, medium bodied smooth Irish Red Ale. Rich, creamy and mellow. A VPB favorite for 23 years! Designed to be a session ale at 4.2% ABV. Very lightly hopped to enhance the appeal for the masses. A true crowd pleaser. We have proudly served over a half million pints of this popular ale to our loyal customers!

Taster at VPB. Dark, clear amber pour, thin, fine head, lacing. Malty aroma with hint of apple. Taste is malty, dry, woody. Odd finish, can't place it.

Long lasting head which leaves some blanketing lace on the glass. Light brown color. Mildly hazy.
Wheat toast aroma. Mildly sweet.
Lots of darker roasted barley malts. This comes across like a richer brown ale. Full bodied with a subdued effervescence. There's a minor hop presence in the swallow. A light darker chocolate aftertaste.

I'm trying this beer at the brewery. It poured a clear amber with thin white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had subtle malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with caramel malt presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.

may not be the quintessential “irish red ale”, but it was nearly love at first sight with this deep red irish ale and it’s mellow, malty flavor

This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a dark red to brown with a nice layer of white foamy head. Dissipates at a nice pace. Moderate lace. The aroma started off with some toast, and caramel malts. Sly roast comes out as it warms. The flavor copies the aroma nicely. Light red delicious apple sweetness comes in for a sly balance. Crisp toastiness and malts in the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice smooth semi-creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Overall, nicely done Irish red ale that I could have again.

Had at Vermont Pub & Brewery. Pours a kind of ruddy brown color, clear, with a thin head. No lacing.
Caramel and peat in the aroma, not much in the way of hops, per the style. Taste is very caramel malt forward, doughy, notes of smoke and peat, finishes with a slightly dry earthy bitterness.
A well made Irish Red that isn't overly sweet like all the other commercial examples of the style. Surprisingly flavorful given the low ABV.

Had on a sampler flight. Served in a 3 ounce glass. The beer had a reddish tint to a somewhat brown colored beer with thin lacing on the sides. Aromas included malts mixed with a light spice, caramel, and some fruit, like cherry. Taste followed the nose and was generally bittersweet with some extra earthy flavors not in the nose, such as nuts. Decent mouthfeel made this drink slightly creamy while keeping a crisp carbonation. Overall, not a bad drink with your meal.
