a collaboration with du ciel, a scotch wee heavy beer aged in a single malt scotch whiskey barrel. i always like peat on peat, earth on earth, and these big meaty brews that compliment themselves with cool barrels. dark brown molasses colored beer, without a ton of head. the dominant aroma is the peat smoked malt from the beer, but sharper alcohol notes from the spirit are there, as is a slight peppery spice. tons of sugar up front in the flavor, a total malt bomb that may intentionally be left a little sweet. i dont know why but this screams breakfast at me, maybe a candied bacon sort of vibe up front with the smoke and sweet. mellowed by oak, this finishes really smooth and long. the sugars unwind as it swallows, vanilla and maple come out too. overall an excellent beer, perfect for the onset of fall. cool to see these guys collaborating with so many canadian breweries. that transnational effort is quite a cool endeavor.
