Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a huge rocky off white foamy head. Seemed to take forever before it died off, but when it did, a great amount of clingy lace wound around the glass. The aroma had a big roasty maltiness up front and then coffee and chocolate coming through in a well blended sweet to bitter way. The flavor had a nice sweet milk chocolatey flow, bold and up front bringing the coffee and roasted malts in very nicely too. Smooth creamy milk chocolatey aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a good smooth sipping quality about it. Mild carbonation. Overall, nice imperial stout that I would have again.

Wow. This is an amazing beer. Just came back from VPB after drinking this and had to sit down and write about it before my thoughts left me. This is one of the best, perhaps the best imperial stout I've had, and without a doubt is my favorite beer from VPB (I've yet to try a couple of the seasonals however- like the maple).

According to the menu, this was cellared for 2 years- which makes sense looking at the dates of the other reviews. I didn't try it two years ago, but it seems to me like it mellowed out in a very good way.

Pours black with a light-medium brown head. Yes, it actually has a very nice head unlike most of their beers. Looks fantastic.

Predominant tastes are chocolatey, coffee, mocha, cappucino malty flavors. There's a touch of apple-like/fruity flavors. You have to really search for any hint of alcohol, but I'm guessing from how it made me feel that it's around the 8% range. Extremely well-hidden, even perhaps dangerous.

The mouthfeel is simply outstanding- love the way it feels in my mouth, and the tastes it leaves behind. Drinkability- oh yeah! The lack of most bitterness and the combination of sweet chocolately, and tamed-down coffee-like flavors make this as quaffable as water in the sahara.

Really a great tasting stout. Nice begining flavor followed by an even better after taste. Goes down quite easily for such a dark beer. Pours really nice. Dark black with a nice creamy tanish colored head. laces the glass beautifully. Nice hints of malt and a rather mild coffeeish flavoring. This beer is very tasty and I would love to drink it all day long. But it is hard getting to the brewery being in CT. Well nothing beats a road trip for some growlers. I enjoy this stout with a nice macanudo cigar. Tastes great out of the cask as well.

Served black with a touch of tan cask head. Sooo smooth. So tasty too. A stout so big they call it imperial. Not too thrilled on the lack of pints served, but the beer in the glass more than makes up for it. Yummy! One of the better Imperial Stouts I've tasted. This one is certainly Montreal influenced.
