Off the tap at the brewery this beer was a dark, wood-stain brown. The head was a finger of tan, fine bubbles that retained well and left excellent lacing in curtains. The aroma was subtle, slightly musty malt, wood chips and hints of soil. The flavors were simple but clean , milk chocolate, pale malt, wood notes, a touch of mustiness as if from fresh mushrooms, hints of sourness and a slightly bitter hops that added balance. The finish was malty in a coffee-like way and it lingered on the palate. The mouthfeel was silky smooth, the body medium/light and the carbonation typically light. Quaffable, sessionable and enjoyable even if not remarkable.
