Alewife and I settled in at the bar here for dinner on 11APR10. While she opted for the brown ale, I made Simply Simcoe my pre-meal beverage, a pint costing me $4.00.
The glass was filled with a medium-copper/golden liquid, and there was a little haze present. Head was thin, and then gone! Just a few white bubbles were left at the edge of the glass, with a suggestion of lace. Aroma had some earthy hoppiness and light, mild malts present. The bier was a bit less than medium, leaning towards thin-ness, though it was smooth going down.
Earthy hops are present in the flavor as well. It was a touch pithy, with a low level of malts showing up. Some grapefruit comes through, but this one lacks complexity. A basic, simplistic APA; time to move on. Prosit!

The beers at VPB were not very good, and I wasn't much impressed with the Simcoe. It is a very light APA with a barley wine whiff in the nose. The consistency is a tad syrupy. The beer is clear and light orangey amber in color. There is just no malty base in this beer. There is a slight citrus note or two, but the beer is empty in the mid section. The beer laces well. The nose on the beer is weak, and this beer I would imagine is a single hop pale ale, in this case the Simcoe hop. It's just not that good or interesting.

Pours a mild amber color with a one finger head into my glass.
Aroma is full of earthy, piney simcoe hops. This is 36 IBUs according to the description.
Taste is full of simcoe hops that are earthy and there's also a decent malt backbone that's sweet and buttery.
Mouthfeel is crisp and full of lingering hops/malt.
Very nice pale ale! Its no double simcoe but it shows what the simcoe hop is capable of.
