Appearance is a nice amber hue as the name suggests. Color perfect for a bitter. Head retention not as good as I would like.

Aroma balances citrus hops with a little caramel malt. No off-smells, but also relatively one-dimensional.

The flavor is similar to aroma, but has a little too much (for me) of some piney characteristics to go with the citrus hops. Seems to be Cascade and Chinook. I guess this seems closer to an APA to me rather than a ESB, just because of the hops flavor. On the flip-side, it has the hop bitterness to fit to style and decent malt balance.

Mouthfeel is quit good. It coats well, but has a very nice finish. This is especially welcome given the somewhat rough pine-hop flavors.

Very drinkable. I wouldn't be surprised if this was basically the same recipe as a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, but it's even a little better.

Amber-gold hue, one fingerÂ’s worth of off-white head, good retention, spotty lace. Lovely appearance. Hoppy nose, citrus, very inviting, a hint of malt. Nicely hopped palate, unbalanced with the malt being a distant secondÂ… damn good. Bitter, think of this as an ESB on steroids. Medium body. I could drink this all night long. Recommended.

Deep amber bodied. Thinnish off-white head, but retains well.
Citric hppy nose, with underlying toffee.
Pretty similar to the pale ale taste wise, but better all around with a heftier malt body and sharper hops.
Toffee notes in the forefront, turning somewhat buttery near the finish. Citric hops are the showcase here. You are forced to believe this is bitter. Compare it to a Rogue Brutal Bitter, instead of a more traditional ESB.
Medium full body. Creamy yet full of life.
A Robust ESB. Good stuff. A Madison classic, which affirms my faith in my city.
