On tap at Cardinal Pub Bar, Stavanger. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Pleasant spicy and citrussy aroma, notes of Earl Grey tea / bergamot. The flavour is fairly dry and fruity, slightly acidic, with strong notes of tea and bergamot. Not very bitter.

i dont know if this is just their regular esb with tea blended in, or a different base beer. its tough to tell because of how prominent the tea is in it, i think its an earl gray type, but i am no tea expert. its impact on this beer is about as high as i have seen tea in any beer, and i really like the result. the pale english malt gives it a nice base, sort of an earthy dry low and. they tea is at once floral and bitter, notes of jasmine and elderflower, but also adding an additional bitter layer beyond what the grassy european hops offer here. the flavor is definitely led by the tea, it starts and ends the experience, really earthy but still quite vibrant and alive. the esb base is a cool choice for a support structure, i think the english ale yeast and bigger malt base are needed to keep this from getting one dimensional with how pungent the tea is. i thought this was beautiful beer overall, really distinctive taste profile, aggressive use of tea, and dry and well carbonated too. an inspired offering that i would have been happy to make an afternoon of.

On nitro tap at Moylan's Brewery in Novato, CA.
Pours a murky orange with a foamy bone head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, dried citrus peel, and brewed earl grey tea aromas. Taste is much the same with brewed earl grey tea, dried citrus peel, and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that has an awesome earl grey tea presence that is especially good in the taste.
Serving type: on nitro tap.
