On tap at Pepperwood Bistro. A seasonal that isn't fitting the hot humid summer in Ontario. Sounded interesting and with a Lack of the monkey brown ale, this was the alternative.
Appearance - dark brown in color nearly black. Thin half finger of fluffy tan head, good retention.
Smell - some maple and slightly burnt characteristics. Not a big aroma.
Taste - like the nose, fairly bitter, traces of coffee and earthy hops with a pronounced vaguely sweet maple syrup centre. Cohesion isn't great.
Mouthfeel - smooth, reasonably light body, well carbonated but slick feel.
Overall - not the best maple porter I've had, but this is a decent example of the style.
