CRAIC: /krak/ - Good fun, great company. Craic was born in 2017, when River Horse Brewing had the honor of becoming one of the early Jameson Caskmates partners. This dry, Irish-style stout aged in Jameson barrels with vanilla and coffee beans, is inspired by the traditional Irish Coffee - strong as a friendly hand, and smooth as the wit of the land.

Canned on 11/24/21 enjoyed on 1/9/22.
Pours dark black, brown with a thick tan head. Aroma is Jameson whisky and mild coffee notes. Taste follows with the Jameson flavor very forward with a background of mild coffee/roasted malts. Feel is excellent, very rich and thick. Overall, it's a tasty big flavor stout, particularly if you like Jameson.

DATE: May 29, 2021... OCCASION: Memorial Day weekend quality time with the family ends on Saturday with a beer that oddly fits the cold, rainy weather outside... GLASSWARE: Citrabellum pokal... pours a black body that sports a frothy brown head that wreaths the glass well... first breath is heavy on the vanilla, whiskey, toasted wood, lactose, and coffee... some toffee and caramel as well, this hits big and boozy... sips at a creamy, smooth, mouth-warming pace, with activity at the teeth and a lingering finish at the throat... thick and coating, demanding a deliberate approach between sips... I appreciate how forward the vanilla is pushed here, moreso than the bourbon or coffee--though both frame the vanilla well enough... the roasted malts also diversify the experience, with the lactic quality sweetening the deal... this is an enjoyable beer--at this ABV, it has heft without off-putting biproducts... a great nightcap and an effective use of Jameson barrels--one really doesn't have to strain to taste that familiar Irish whiskey in each sip...

Just stumbled on to this beer today. Outstanding Irish Stout! No need to expound on the details of the previous reviews (they are accurate) since this beer has been discontinued :(. But I wanted to get my review out there in case River Horse is looking and it influences them to bring it back. :)

Look: Pours opaque and black. Light brown finger of head that eventually disappears with a thin ring of foam around the edge of the glass. No visible carbonation. No lacing.
Smell: This beer has a really wonderful nose. Sweet and smooth Jameson. The creamy vanilla comes through nicely. Coffee. Very oak forward. Brown sugar / caramel. They have done the Irish Coffee aroma justice.
Taste: On the tip of tongue you get some sweet, creamy and vanilla flavored coffee. In the middle some dark berry coffee notes finished with bitter, toasty, dark roast coffee. This beer is defined by the coffee flavors, which finish intensely. I’d describe the flavor as biting into and chewing on a roasted coffee bean. I really like it and I think they did a good job with it.
Feel: Smooth, medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Dry.
Overall: This beer was meant for drinking. Other than the bold coffee aspect, there’s nothing too intense about this 9.1% whisky barrel aged stout. It’s very drinkable.
The star of the show is the coffee. The vanilla and Jameson barrel provide a nice backdrop and create a nice depth of flavor and sweetness taking this already nice style to a different, yet familiar place. This one’s a home run for me.
Side note: A very well designed label for a Jameson barrel aged Dry Irish Stout.

Light carbonation with an above average body. Overall a very nice feel to this one
Aroma is Jameson, wood, roasted malt, coffee, with the dryness somehow showing up in the aroma
Taste follows aroma with it being incredibly dry.
A great one from river horse that's worth a try
