A very nice red ale. I enjoyed the flavor. It has a nice red color. This was my first time visiting Barley and Hops, and was very impressed with the selection of beer, and nice variety of food. The waitstaff was very friendly, as well as easy on the eyes.

The Tuscarora Red is a very good red ale. It compares to other American red ales.

 

 

From old brief notes. On draft at the brewpub in my hometown. Pours a deep red with small creamy white head. Aroma is bland malts, caramel, a bit of candy I guess. Flavor follows with bland malt, some bitter hops, and not a particularly clean finish. Not terrible but not something I would revisit. Will have to try the other stuff here, but this one is plenty drinkable if nothing else is worthwhile.

 

 

 

Pours ruby red with a thin head that becomes a wide patch. Little lacing sticks.

The smell is of caramel, a hint of toffee/chocolate and slight breadiness.

The taste is lightly roasted (slightly burnt), sweet caramel/toffee with just a mild hint of tea-leaf bitterness way in the back. Sweetness balanced more by a mild roastiness more than the hop bitterness, though. It has a thinnish, sweet finish.

Light-bodied, approaching medium. A bit weak.

Not bad if you like your reds to be malty, though thinness detracts a bit, and is nothing particularly special, even then.

June 2011 update on Barley & Hops-- the brewmaster from Flying Dog (on the other side of the city) has now come to Barley & Hops and is doing some amazing brews!

Somewhat disappointing, another slightly watery acceptable beer from Barley & Hops in our experience.

A= basic medium amber-red, more to the brown shade than red like some of the popular macro-reds. Little head.

S= watery, slight hints of caramel, malts and modest hops-florals.

T= watery, some caramel, burnt malts

M= watery, little lingering other than a slight sweetness.

D= probably very drinkable in-session but I'd want something better unless I just wasn't paying attention and wanted some mild non-intrusive beer with my meal.

I enjoyed this beer. It was a nice, dark red color poured from tap into a pint glass. Not much on the nose as far as picking up the aromas of the beer, but it was full flavored and malty on first taste. I thought it was an excellent red ale, kind of like a big beer in a little beer's body. It jumped out far more than B&H's other offerings and was probably their best beer other than the stout. My girlfriend also very much enjoyed this. Recommended.

Poured from the tap at the pub. The Liquid is a nice redish amber with good carbonation. The dead was this and faded fast leaving some lace. This was the beer the locals were drinking.

The smell was nice, malty with good hop action.

The taste follows nice malty brew, carmel lightly roasted, and a nice hopy presents for great balance.

The mouthfeel was a little fizzy, bud good body.

The drinkability was good. Prosit MK

This beer poured with a nice head and deep amber color. The nose told you that malt was on its way. You got a mouthfull of malt with a light hop balance to it. I enjoy a nice malty red as many are so wimpy and bland and this one lives up to my expectations. Looking forward to tasting this again also.
