A hybrid among stout styles, our stout has balance between it’s robust roasted coffee notes and its creamy, chocolate-like malt sweetness. It pours black with hints of ruby color and a thick off-white head. The flavor starts with a strong burnt sugar sweetness on the tip of the tongue and coffee like astringency on the sides. Its finish is dry with no cloying sweetness, just a touch of velvet in the body from flaked oats. Try this one for dessert paired with chocolate and ice cream.

Very nice, probably one of 3 that we enjoyed which were currently being served in April 2008 (versus the other 3 that were sub-par).
A= very dark ruby-brown, slightly glistening appearance, modest brown head.
S= very nice; lots of hops and darker burnt traits, hints of liquor.
T= exciting from first-sip, the scent prepares you for it. Bold yet not annoying or out of balance. Noticeable scotch-like kick (at first we thought we'd confused this Stout and the seasonal Scotch Ale sitting next to it!). Burnt everything plus balanced hops just short of being hoppy-biting.
M= bold; slight syrupy feel with earthy chocky-ness; and a modest kick similar to but less than taking a shot of scotch.
D= probably session if you can take the AVB (unknown to us).

This was an excellent beer, the best I tried (out of four) on my visit to Barley and Hops in Frederick. Unfortunately they had no cask-conditions or seasonal beer available and my disinterested server (Chris) didn't seem to know or care when they would be available. But I digress, I'll save that for my beerfly review.
The beer is great; an excellent stout, very malty with coffee, chocolate and caramel smell and taste. A nice balance of hops and smooth as can be. Highly recommend this beer over their others on a visit.

Poured vom fass at the bar. A nice $2.00 Happy hr. Pint. The liquid is dark, almost black with good carbonation. A very nice 2 finger tan head made the beer look great, it faded nicely to a thin cap with good lace. I have had this before at local events and Gary the main man always seems to be around.
The smell is pleasant a nice roasty aroma.
The taste is classic Irish dry stout. Roasty coffee and chocolate taste, a little milky and sweet.
The mouthfeel is thinish to follow that same style.
This is a smooth drinking brew and quite sessionable. Prosit MK

Draft pint at the brewpub. A dark black pour with an ice-mocha-tan poofy head. Presented a smoky lactic aroma. Bit thin bodied for a stout but well flavored ... hint of smoke, bit sweet and a bit tart for a stout. My wife actually liked it more than I did. (#2711, 2/18/07)

This very dark and roasty dry Irish-style stout poured with a nice nitro head. The roasted malt definitely is right up front in this beer and was quite tasty. I felt it had more flavor than Guinness but lacked some of the mouthfeel that its Irish relative has. All in all, a good American dry stout and a great session beer.

A big black pour with a slight tan head. The beer is full of roasted malt smells and coffee and even a bit of citrus hops. Full of roasted and chocolate flavor and a nice grainy oatmeal flavor. The hops even come through quite a bit in the end with a touch of C-hops and a finishing bitterness. Very nice full body ~5% oatmeal stout. Poundable beer and the second best offering, I've had here.

A sad Guinness draught clone. Uninspired.
