Pours murky brown with a thin head that becomes a patch. A bit of lacing sticks. Would be fine, but something of a disappointment for a cask.
The smell is of a single-malt Scotch. Vanilla, wood/oak, with a touch of chocolate. Some dark fruitiness in the back. On the mild side.
The taste is woody with vanilla notes. A decent single-malt Scotch easily comes to mind. Some chocolate and dark fruitiness is there. Some acidity is in the sweet finish.
The thinness adds to a deceptive drinkability, though hardly does much for the feel. Alcohol is well-covered, though.
I was hoping to like this more, as I like oak-aged Scotch ales, and on-cask, to boot. Well- I didn't love this. It's okay, but not nearly as rich, complex or creamy as it could be. It has enough going for it to be pretty good, but a bit lacking for what it could be in the end.
