A bit disappointed because I bought this without knowing anything about it and thought based on the name alone it might be an Altbier. Wrong, just a Helles. Unfortunately there's not really any info on the bottle. The bottle is thick, rather impressive looking, but has no label. Looks as good as any other Helles. Mostly straw and bready Helles malt on the nose. Bready malt at first, a bit of ethanol surprisingly, and some earthy hops. It almost has the touch of spice that the "würzig" name promises, but could do with some more to truly live up to the name. Goes down very nicely, but marks docked for the ethanol, which at only 4.9% is just odd. Overall a good but not spectacular Helles.

Review: 0,5l Bottle of Altenmünster Urig Wurzig: ABV: 4.9% vol
In a strap bottle, which looks fairly nice and in a classic style, if a little unusual in that it didn’t have a label on the front, just a small description on the neck of the bottle.
The appearance is of a nice golden yellow colour, with a white fluffy head that looks well, albeit it does die a bit, Some small carbonation going on. Not bad looking.
The smell is malty, also get a sweet piercing smell of the citrus but its all very pleasant. A nice aroma.
Also get a rustic aroma of grains and hay, an earthy kind of smell.
Got nice big mouthfalls on the initial taste, light tastes, but nothing really standing out.
Very malty at the back end. Grainy taste as well.
All very smooth, not bitter, and very easy to drink.
But nothing outstanding, a regular enough brew, nothing to get too exited about.
Overall it is a good solid session beer, very smooth, no harsh aftertastes, very crisp. Good, but nothing special, few flavours.
A light lager taste. Pretty much a regular lager. I didn’t find the spicy part that many have noted in this beer.
Nothing special, bit disappointing considering the nice looking bottle and all, but would do if thirsty!

Very refreshing beer with good flavor/taste. Very smooth indeed with no after taste which is what good beers do best.

Medium white crown; colour is yellow, golden; smell is somehow bitter; in mouth, spicy, bitter, hints of nuts in the end.

This is an all around decent beer. Very malty, with some biscuit flavor. Goes down easy. It is refreshing and better than most German beers I've tried. Will purchase again.

Format: a solid and stumpy, embossed brown 500mL bottle with a swing-top. No label on the side, just a macro label on the neck. Looks pretty cool.
Appearance: a pretty standard amber colour with a lively carbonation. Around a finger of white head that drops to a thick cap.
Aroma: some sweet malt and grain here with just a touch of hop aroma - grass and some citrus.
Taste: pretty much follows the nose - malt and grains with some grass, not so much citrus. Clean flavours.
Aftertaste: some hop bitterness with the grain hanging about.
Mouth feel: light to moderate in body with a medium carbonation.
Overall: not a bad lager at all - better than most. Comes across as more of a pilsener if I am honest. Pretty expensive too at AU$8 per bottle.
