Oberdorfer is is my second Helles ever. Drank it straight from a 0,5 liter bottle. As other have mentioned also, fresh is the first word that comes to my mind. At first your mind tells you that it is a refined pint, but it lacks the skunky aftertaste that can ruin my interest in a pint. It is comparable to pints but at the same time different. Helles has a much richer aftertaste then any pint i drank. It reeks of clean Alpine mountain water with subtle hints of sweetness where especially mass produced pints can have an aftertaste that rubs me the wrong way and makes me change brands. Yes i compared it to mountain water as brews in this style are always watery to me. Beers in this style are always a little too light to my liking as a strong blond lover, but i would pick Oberdorfer over any pint because of aforementioned reasons. The aftertaste is nice and you just taste that it is brewed with love for the style. I would strongly recommend Oberdorfer to anybody that loves pints as it is superior to it in every way.

Appearance (Look) – 3.0
A clean, pale golden lager with a light head. Looks exactly like what you’d expect from a simple Bavarian helles. Nothing flashy, but solid.

Aroma (Smell) – 3.0
Light grain and subtle malt sweetness on the nose. Very mild aroma overall—pleasant but not particularly complex.

Flavor (Taste) – 3.75
Very clean and pure tasting. Light malt character with a crisp finish. This isn’t a beer that tries to impress with big flavors—it’s built for easy drinking.

Mouthfeel (Feel) – 4.0
Smooth and light with very balanced carbonation. This is where the beer really shines. Extremely easy to drink.

Final Verdict
An easy-drinking Bavarian lager that focuses on smoothness rather than complexity. Think of it as a Bud Light brewed in Bavaria—clean, crisp, and incredibly drinkable. No fireworks, no bold flavors, just a simple beer that goes down smooth as hell.

On tap in Füssen, Bavaria, this beer poured a clear, golden hue with a frothy white head that gradually dissipated and left minimal lacing. The aroma featured notes of grain and malt, inviting a warm, malty scent. The flavor was well-balanced and smooth, with a prominent grain character that made it easy to drink. The mouthfeel was light in body, complemented by lively carbonation. Overall, it’s a enjoyable and well-crafted beer.

Clear golden brew with abundant foam in the pFriem mug. Lush and sudsy on the tongue. Aromatic with bread and a whiff of alfalfa. This is both thirst quenching and flavorful. It tastes more on the Festbier end than a simple Helles. Taste is malty but not overly sweet. Flavors of fresh bread with some grainy taste. Just a slight roasted malt flavor and finishes with a hint of leafy hops. Bitter, it's not. But somehow nicely balanced and a deeply enjoyable quaff. From the 500 ml can for the U.S. market and 5.0 ABV. No apparent date.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a pale, straw-gold with a fine one finger white head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of light, bready lager malt, light grain, lightly sweet and mild grassy hops. Flavor is whole grain bready malt, some husky whole grain, light sweetness, bread crust and moderate grassy hops. Hops are more forward in the lingering bready malt finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. An unassuming, but pleasant helles. I liked the balance of graininess and mild sweetness which made the finish less harsh than other helles. Somewhat dialed back in flavor density. This would make a very nice dinner beer as it's not assertive.

Trent 18/7 2025. 50 cl bottle from Edeka, M’uhlenstraße, Gingst. Checkered white and light Blue label with a little colored rendering of a Church with a weird Tower and some houses.

Pours clear yellow with a big white head. Stable. Settles as a thin, patchy layer of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Moderate Lacing.

Aroma is medium intense with a sweet malty odor mingling with a light scent of sourish grains. Sweet pale malts, bread and cereal. Whiff of cardboard. Sour grains.

Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed and balanced by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sourishly bitter with a metallic undertone. Lingers for a while. Finish is semi-dry and a tad thin.

Well balanced, bready, run of the mill Helles.

Now that I've been in Berlin for four days (and not been able to find anything other than German beers), I'm reminded of how I've coped with this in the past: drink German beers when you're thirsty or eating a simple lunch. Germans' tastes in beers still seem the most insular of any serious brewing country on earth.

So it is with Oberdorfer's Helles, although it serves is purpose with a sandwich. A pleasant Helles, but hard to say how it differs in the marketplace.

This is my third from Allgauer, and I still can't find the English button on their website. Hence, low Overall Hugs.
