Collaboration with MadTree Brewing Company

Brewed with Burundi Mpanga coffee from Deeper Roots in Cincinnati, Ethiopian Harrar coffee from Chesepeake Bay Roasting Co. in Baltimore and cocoa nibs from Maverick Chocolate in Cincinnati, this robust brew is loaded with local flavor. Deep mahogany in color with layers of malt, chocolate, and roasted complexity.

Last bottle, poured into a tulip, wish I had another.
This one held up well, nose is still full of caramel malt and cocoa. I think the roastiness and coffee flavor have tailed off a bit but it also seems a little more smooth. Semi sweet cocoa and rich malt are strong. Full bodied with low carbonation it doesn't have a bite nor is it what I would call soft.
I'm not and expert on the style but it may be a little off. That being said, this is a great tasting brew.

22 oz brown bottle - code 17255 [September 12, 2017]

Heavy Seas Mad Tree Partnership Wee Heavy filled my tulip glass with a mahogany colored hue. Atop sat a tan 1-finger head that shrunk to a ring of foam with hit-and-miss lacing. The nose was dominated by the scent of chocolate, toffee. and sweet caramel. The flavor matches the nose with a nice roasty flavor added. Mouth feel is full bodied, a little sticky and chewy with light alcohol warming at the finish. Carbonation is to the light side.

Mad Tree is a rich and flavorful Wee Heavy. Sure is worth a visit if you like the style.

Pours an effervescent chestnut with 2+ fingers of tan colored head. Stellar lacing and head retention

S: Cocoa, leafy hops, slight peatyness

T: Peatyness, dryness, cocoa, some leafyhops up front. Cocoa powder, leafy hops, peat as this warms. Finishes dry with much cocoa and a little peat

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation,

A weird wee heavy. Disappointed in this

Had on tap and also from a 22 ounce bottle. Drank at a temperature around 50 degrees.

L: Pours a dark opaque brown almost black with a dark khaki color head. Head was about 2 to 3 finger widths thick lasting for a few minutes with light to almost no lacing.

S: Pleasant aroma of chocolate, coffee, toffee, vanilla, and earthiness.

T: Had a good flavor of chocolate, coffee, smoke, dark caramel, molasses, charred malt, and toffee. Taste was smooth and lasting without feeling sweet.

F: Light carbonation, went down smooth with a mild bubble on the back of throat. Aftertaste of coffee notes yet pleasant on the palate.

O: Quite enjoyable beer for a cold winter day. Has a great taste and good feel. Again served and drank around 50 degrees and found this to be a nice temperature to bring out the full flavor. Hope to see Mad Tree and Heavy Seas collaborate again, as this was a good enjoyable outcome.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark brown / black color and a thick, opaque texture. There was a quarter inch of foamy, off white, fairly long-lasting head. Below average lacing.

S: A solid aroma of coffee, chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, and malt.

T: Tasted of nice shot of caramel, some coffee notes (not as much as expected), a bit of chocolate, some malt, a little it of char, vanilla, and dark fruit (plums, in particular). An interesting take on the wee heavy style. The coffee's a nice touch, but it needs more of it. Could have been a little more forceful, but still tasty.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: While this beer has its flaws, it still manages to be likable. Worth a look.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/12/2017. Pours nearly opaque very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, milk chocolate, nutty medium roast coffee, cocoa, toffee, molasses, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of peat smoke, vanilla, raisin, plum, prune, fig, date, licorice, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, cocoa, coffee, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, milk chocolate, nutty medium roast coffee, cocoa, toffee, molasses, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of peat smoke, vanilla, raisin, plum, prune, fig, date, licorice, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal/grassy/spicy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, milk chocolate, nutty medium roast coffee, cocoa, toffee, molasses, toasted dark/brown bread, light dark fruit/smoke, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, cocoa, coffee, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from hop/roast bitterness. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.25%. Overall this is an awesome wee heavy. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, cocoa, coffee, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Very rich and complex dark/bready malts with nice cocoa/coffee presence; mild complementing fruity yeast and earthy hop notes in the background. Does not feel overly roasty to fall out of style at all. A really enjoyable/unique offering, and spot on style example.
