Loose Cannon Bourbon Barrel Aged - from Heavy Seas. 16 fl oz can, purchased from Franklin Beer Co, Franklin, PA, 11/07/24, $ 3.00 (Including tax), $ 0.188/fl oz. Reviewed 15/07/24 (Review 3319). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Printed on can bottom “24025”. Stored in reefer at the distributor, 34 degrees at home. Served at 45.6 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 54.8 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale Gold (SRM 4), clear.
Body – Deep Gold (SRM 6), clear. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Average (Maximum 2.9 cm, aggressive center pour), cream, high density, and short retention, leaving a 0.9 – 1.3 cm crown and cap.
Lacing – Very good – three-dimensional bands of tiny to small bubbles.
Aroma – 3.5 – Subdued citrus floral with a hint of bourbon. No yeast, no malt, no alcohol (8.5 % ABV, according to the label).
Flavor – 3.5 – Follows the nose – taste is ameliorated by the bourbon barrels, making a softer, gentler IPA. No yeast, no malt, no alcohol. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Slow, mild gastric warming.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium; almost creamy; soft but lively carbonation.
Final Impression and summation: 4 Not a great tasting brew, but generally OK. Price point is excellent.
