I like Heavy Seas beers and this one is no exception!!! Hazy Tangerine Double IPA is the third in a series of "Impending Doom" beers all with different hops profiles (some in cans/some in bottles). I haven't had any of the others yet. This one was poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. It featured a hazy light orange color and a good sized foamy white head with some lacing. I would have labeled this beer as an Imperial IPA, both for strength and level of bitterness. It has citrus like the label says - tangerine, but it is not especially "fruity" overall. There is more than a hint of piney hops and, between the strength and piney hops, this one plays out more as a "West Coast" strong IPA than a New England one. Aroma and taste feature a nice mix of citrus and pine and some caramel malt. Mouthfeel is crisp rich enough for the style and very nicely bitter!! # 4 in this series is out and I will be looking for it!!!!

I didn't add this beer, but it appears that I will be the first to review it. Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a hazy golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of tangerines. Taste is juicy, tangerines, grapefruit, a bit of alcohol. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

Notes via stream of consciousness: My first question is, is there a flavoring involved in this beer? No, it's tangerine purée! Awesome! The neck label also lists the hops as Citra and Simcoe and you can't go wrong with that combination but I was kind of expecting that they'd hit up some Mandarina Bavaria. I should also note that I initially thought that maybe the Impending Doom series was all the same base beer but that's clearly not the case as this is lighter in color than the standard hazy double IPA that I sampled. This is a cloudy golden orange beneath a creamy finger's width of antique-white foam while the other one was orange with golden highlights. There's definitely tangerine in the aroma but it's fairly soft. It's citrusy, lightly malty, and delicately piney. You know that the alcohol is there but it's not threatening "Impending Doom"! The flavor follows pretty much to a T. I'm not finding anything else which is a little weird. Well, it is a little herbal but that's it. The bitterness is held back and it's what I'd call median for a double IPA. Along with the alcohol it's mostly dry in the finish although a little bit of malt does linger. It's medium-full in body and surprisingly creamy and smooth. The head has held up quite well and there's some very nice lacing but it's not great. On the other hand, and correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't a higher alcohol content tend to kill the lacing? If that's the case then this is pretty good. All in all I find this to be a very well-made, well put together, and remarkably balanced beer. The tangerine is there but it's not sharp or biting with acidity, and at the same time there's enough of it that it isn't enveloped in the malty blanket. I didn't enjoy this as much as I did the other beer that I sampled from the Impending Doom line-up because it's not as complex but I think that it's really nicely balance and rounded and a lot of people are totally happy with a more straightforward beer. Having said that I'll also note that I'd certainly buy this again as it's quite nice, and I sometimes like to have a beer that just let's me turn off the brain and space out.

This is really solid especially for those wanting a more hoppy experience, this is not a fruit bomb, very hoppy still and the tangerine shows most on the finish at least to me anyways. Definitely would have this edition again but looking forward to the next one.
