This dark strong ale was fermented with a blend of Belgian and Norwegian yeasts, along with our house mixed culture, while aging in our French Oak Foudre.

Look: The beer is brown and translucent around the edges. Opaque and dark brown in the middle. Light brown head of bubbles quickly disappears. No visible carbonation.
Smell: It’s a sour beer and based on the smell it’s an Oud Bruin or some take on a Flanders-style ale. A lot of fruit like apple, pear, cherry, strawberry. A faint hint of apple cider vinegar. Vibrant and acidic fruit with some pretty complex sweetness as the beer warms up including raisins, grapes, tobacco. Musty, damp, floral, powdery funk. The smell is great.
Taste: On the tip of the tongue there’s some dried dark fruit sweetness like raisin, but that fades quickly to sour. The sweetness comes back a bit but this beer is all lacto acidity tartness. Lemon juice. There is some dark, bready/oak/woody (faintly bitter) sweetness to it that adds a light vanilla note.
Feel: Low carb, thin, puckering tartness and dry.
Overall: If I had to guess on the style I would say this beer is a Flanders Oud Bruin or Red Ale, probably the latter. Definitely has that aroma. The aroma is really nice and quite complex. The flavor is mostly acidic, but has some nice sweeter notes. I don’t think there’s any fruit here, but there could be cherries or something like that.

Poured into a tulip glass. A hazy cola-brown color that was nearly opaque in the glass, with a small tan head that left rather quickly. Oak, raisins, and plums dominated the nose, along with some tart cherries. The first sip brought a big tartness accompanied by oak, vanilla, raisins, caramel, and figs. Almost a lemony tart finish. Dry and funky as well. Outstanding.
