Found this at an Italian Restaurant in Atlanta. Poured a deep red with little to no head at all. I blame some of that on the pourer who didn't give it the straight shot at the end. Consequently, no lacing to be had. Malty Caramel aroma let me know some sweetness was coming and it delivered. Malt, Caramel, a little Apple with a malty finish. Mouthfeel was medium. Overall, a good example of an Italian double malt! I'd definitely have it again.

Had on tap at a new Petaluma restaurant drawing on the Naples kitchen. While I figured the Italian pales would pair better, I wanted to try this Rossa with pizza. (I would have been right to stick with the pales.) But the whole meal was enjoyable including this Rossa.

I honestly was expecting a more active foam on tap. Smells were mostly malt, so I knew this would pair decent with pizza. It did as it had just enough hops for balance, though not distinctive given all the malt in this 6.7 ABV. Almost medium-mouthed. Smooth. Rossa let this white pizza do its work. Alla tua salute !

Bottle 0.33L.
Dark amber body with an average, frothy, off-white head, mostly diminishing with virtually no lacing.
Light-to-moderate malty (caramel) aroma with notes of alcohol and medicine.
Light-to-moderate sweet and light bitter flavour with a very light alcoholic note.
Light-to-medium body with watery-to-oily texture; soft carbonation; light alcoholic warming in the finish.

330ml bottle from Boise Co-op. Copper colored pour, fizzy off-white head settles out quickly. Sweet malty aroma, caramel, hint of cooked vegetables. Taste is sweet and malty, almost sugary. Creamy feel. The sweetness needs to be taken down a notch.

330ml can served in an ordinary glass.

A: Pours slightly cloudy amber color forming a creamy and bubbled beige head with medium to low retention that forms and leave some lingering lacings in the glass.

S: Sweet nose. Strong notes of caramel and caramel malts. Bready yeasts. Grassy hops profile. Bit booze finish.

T: Bittersweet upfront taste. Strong notes of caramel malts. Grassy and slightly citrus hops profile. Very bready. Sweet caramel aftertaste.

M: Medium body. Medium carbonation.

O: Good drinkabiliy. Classic Bock style. Low fermentation yeasts profile. Great lager beer.

330mL bottle purchased at Rocket Market, high atop Spokane's South Hill, for roughly $3. Per the rear label, this is reckoned by the brewery to be best consumed before September 20, 2022. According to the neck label, this is a "Doppio Malto."

Poured into a shaker pint glass, this is a slightly hazy autumnal, golden amber. Good sized, creamy, off-white head.

Sweet, nutty malt aroma. This may say "Doppio Malto," but it smells like an American amber ale like African Amber.

Taste follows smell. This is a kinda pleasant but also kinda bland amber lager, not a doppelbock. Finishes clean.

Medium bodied, with more carbonation than I expected, due to the fairly pathetic "pfft" when uncapped. Lightly creamy mouthfeel, with a clean but not crisp finish.

Meh. It's fine, without being in any way remarkable. Still, kinda bummed something I expected to be like a doppelbock turned out to be a blandly pleasant amber lager, albeit one of higher abv percentage than the norm.

i thought this was very good, a distinctive red beer that stands out from the crowd in an often generic style, tough to do, so i was impressed with this, especially for the price, the boise import game remains strong! deep copper in color, frothy headed from the bottle and the lace lasts. its pretty beer, a rich shade and lively too. aroma is a little sweet, concentrated to me, obviously malt forward but with what seems like some lager yeast character too, kind of awesome and more complex and grounded than i expected, immediately more complex and compelling than their pils, at least for me. strongly nutty in the flavor, and not generic or familiar nutty, but new and quite complex, id love to know more about the malt in this, it seems unique to me, at least it is in this presentation. some dark breadiness too. i love the way it dries itself out at the end, the minerals that exist in here, and how it tastes and feels lagered throughout, although im not sure how this is made. not without a little weight to it, some alcohol as it warms, and excellent carbonation. this was a nice break between the wines last night, a beer i could drink more than usual of for a malt forward brew, and overall a very good recipe nicely executed. this was well ahead of my expectations, and an excellent pizza beer!

edit: freshness matters with this a little more than expected, had what must have been an older bottle recently and it seemed quite faded even if the oxidation was not brimming out of it, less dynamic than remembered, still way ahead of the curve, but try to find this as fresh as can be confirmed, much better that way...
