Copenhagen 8/9 2020, 50 cl bottle from Mikkeller web-shop. Yellow-ish label made out to look like some kind of pergament with some ornaments to make it look very, very old.
Pours unclear amber with a medium-sized white head. Somewhat bubbly. Settles as 0,5 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. No lacing.
Aroma is intense with sweet lemonade meeting pipe smoke. Sweet wheat malt and lemonade. White sugar and citrus. Smoke and a bit of peat peeking in.
Medium strong carbonation. Thin, watery, tingling texture,
Flavor is moderately intense and on the watery side. Medium sweet followed by a moderate sourness. Aftertaste sweetish and short. Finish is watery.
Lemonade and pipe-smoke in the nose - but a bit thin when it comes to flavor,

Bought a 0,5L bottle at the brewery back in late May 2023, dated 24.08.23. Pours a gorgeous color. Quite a unique nose, with aromas of traditional wheat beer yeast and subtle smoke. Same with the flavor, which is a bit smokier. Has the spice and fruitiness, as well as the soft and supple body and feel and finish of a Hefe but includes the residual smoke which makes this so special. Spezial has some really special recipes.

From the half liter bottle, it pours a hazy amber color with a modest (for a wheat beer) white head that soon reduces to a ring. The nose gets a dose of smoke over malt with hints of wheaty spice. The taste is smoky wheat beer. Yum!

Incita a darle largos tragos

Brauerei Spezial "Weizen"
2,90€/0,5l on tap at the brewery on 13 September 2017
Notes: Cloudy, deep amber in color with orange highlights beneath a full head of pillowy bright white foam. Excellent head retention and lacing. The aroma is both smoky and phenolic with the typical mild clove as well as some soft fruit and just a light hint of banana. The flavor delivers a wheaty malt with a touch of light caramel, which I'm assuming is due to the fact that they kiln and smoke their own malts in-house. It's an interesting twist. A moderate bitterness balances it and it lingers with clove and a sweetish note on the tip of the tongue in the finish. Medium-bodied and crisp. It's interesting and unusual, really a very unique weizen, and it also happens to be quite refreshing and drinkable at the same time. As far as rauchbier weizens go it has to be one of the best. A classic!

50cl serving in weissbier glass at Spezial, Bamberg
A - Cloudy amber body with a solid creamy 4 finger white head. Very good lacing/head retention
S- Lots of spicey stornoway black pudding, hint of clove.
T - Spicey black pudding is dominant with an underlying banana clove note in a semi dry finish.
M - Medium carbonation/body
D - Like the lager i cant get enough of the spicey black pudding note, just love it. Along with the classic weissbier notes and the refreshing drier finish its superb. It has a more subtle carbonation, fuller body than the lesser weissbiers, which i definitely prefer.

Served from a bottle into a .5l hefeweissbier glass in Bamberg. My bottle displayed an ABV of 5.3%, NOT 5%. Reviewed from notes.
A: Pours a five finger head of fair cream, nice thickness, and amazing retention. Colour is a dark nontransparent copper. There's a nice downward bubble show.
Sm: Pleasant wheat with nice malt tones. Marzen hops. A moderate strength aroma.
T: Hoppy body over a wheat foundation. Some badly handled malt. Too sugary, as though not all of the sugar was fermented. Balanced well, but built poorly.
Mf: Decently coarse and refreshingly wet. Matches the flavours.
Dr: All the sugar clearly hasn't fermented as it ought to have. They bottled and/or released this too early. Despite the mistake, I can tell if properly handled, the flavour would be great. It would make an excellent festbier. Poorly priced for a badly brewed beer. I'd like to try it when it's finished.

Another awkward upsidedown pour that ended in a bit of spilling.
A: Crazy dense and creamy head. A full 4 fingers with excellent rentention. Dark for a weizen. A tea brown orange and fairly cloudy. Massive rising carbonation. One of the best heads I've ever seen on a weissbier. tons of lacing.
S: Typical strong german malt with a nasal passage clearing yeast. A bit sweet and slightly smokey. Far in the background there's a smoked ham/salmon smell.
T: Very different from a typical weizen or any other German beer.. Earthy malt, subtle sweetness, yeast is very integrated into the flavor and doesn't stand out on it's own. Slightly smokey. That smoked ham/salmon is also in the flavor as well. Very different but good.
M: Very soft with a very light carbonation sting.
O: Interesting and nice. Far from representative of hefeweizens, but an interesting take.

The colour is orange-yellow, the liquid hazy (although there are more yeast in the top of the glass than in the bottom). The thee finger head is firm; it leaves lots of lacing.
The smell is rather neutral: Fruit esters, sourish notes. Some minerals.
The taste starts off with odd notes of beef stock and boiled meat. Some salt and spices. The aftertaste got notes of wheat flour, fruity esters and a touch of yeast.
The carbonation is light, the small bubbles are weak. The liquid is a little sticky.
One of the least impressive German weissbiers I have had so far.
