Kurojyaga = Black potatoe.
This beer seems to be somewhat of a gimmick beer, marketed to tourists to Hokkaido--who seek, among other things, potatoes. I've also seen a corn version of this beer out there, but haven't tried it yet. I wouldn't have bought this beer, but it was given to me.
It's a very dark, dark brown with a fast-fading, somewhat cool dark brown head. Ingredients are: malt, hops, and potatoes.
I could barely find anything to call a smell, just some faint wisps of coffee and caramel.
In the mouth--I was VERY surprised. This beer tastes great! The dominant flavor is light bitter roasted coffee, with something vegetal as well. It makes way immediately for the finale--a stiff baking chocolate hop dryness with big accents of dirt--yes, fresh Hokkaido topsoil--which reminded me of freshly picked, dirty potatoes. A faint potatoe taste, as well as unidentified spices, arrive at the palate late--and the aftertaste is endless. A truly unique taste.
This beer needs some work though!
