for how little kiwi fruit is actually in this, i quite liked the beer itself. i thought it would be a kiwi explosion, still waiting for a beer that does that. its a little hazy, real pale, and holds an inch of white head in the globe. no sediment is visible, and there is a slight tang that makes the mouth water. it would be the yeast, but it also could be the puckery fuzzy skin of the fruit itself, i have no idea how they introduced this element, but i wouldnt put fresh whole fruit out of the question based on the nose. it doesnt taste as compelling in that regard, but it tastes really good. there is a belgian type yeast happening that makes it almost more of a belgian pale ale than a saison, the funk really isnt there despite a little fruity tartness, its not wild or weird or farmy or rustic. its new school and clean, but its good. the wheat in the malt base is fresh and light, but adds a nice mouthfeel, while its also not real shy on the hops. the mix of flavors is delicious and unique, although if there is actual kiwi in this beer, i hard a hard time finding it. if appreciable fruit flavor is the goal, it needs to be ramped way up. but as for a drinkable and distinct saison, they have done a fine job with this. i like the innovative side of ska, nice to see a few new beers from them in the market lately...
