Shared 500 ml swingtop bottle, as Klosterbräu Bamberger Gold Pils, thanks to gunnar who brought it fresh from Bamberg. ABV is 4.9%. Pale golden colour, moderate white head. Sweetish aroma with strong notes of grassy hops. Fairly crisp pilsener flavour, decent hops on a sufficient malty base. Might well buy again, if in need for a pilsener.

Served on-draught into a halbelitre stein at Klosterbrau in Bamberg. Cost was 2.30 euro. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a half finger head of poor retention so bad it's impossible to ascertain cream of thickness. Colour is a light yellow.

Sm: A very light aroma of plain barley. Boring.

T: Slightly caramelized malt joins with badly handled barley to form the foundation. Beyond that, there's just amber hops and malt. Where are the crystal hops? Most of the flavour is actually in the first half; the second half feels barren and bland until the caramelized malt finish. Built poorly for a pilsener.

Mf: Smooth and wet, but a bit sharp - indicative of potential overcarbonation. Atypical and unwelcome for a pilsener.

Dr: Low ABV. Average price by German standards. Below average drinkability, especially for a pilsener. Even pilsener fans will question this one, but all things considered it's alright. I wouldn't get it again.
