#3 of my 2024 advent calendar
A- This starts out looking much like a beer but ends up looking more like a cider at the end of the day. The coloration is much like apple juice golden, and with just a hint more haziness. The head is very white, about one finger of thickness at the beginning and fizzles out very quickly to form a simple thin ring around the inside of the rim. There is plenty of noisy carbonation rising to the top in plenty of aggressive columns, and the lacing is quite watery....again much like a proper cider. Overall if you told me this was an apple wheat beer I wouldn't believe it upon looking at it.
S- Again, this smells more like a cloudy cider than a beer, yet when I do close my eyes and give it a proper whiff, I get some sweet crab apple and I hate to say this, but it isn't good, musty grain that reminds me of when someone just got ill if you know what I mean....the wheat malt does this no favours. I can't find anything else in the aromas after smelling this swill....
T- The flavors are mild and not really forward with any malt.....just some muted apple and a weird yeasty flavor that doesn't blend well with the acidity of the apple pulp/juice used here. The finish is sweet and cider like but it isn't what I would like to be tasting here....
M/O- light/medium mouthfeel and the carbonation is what I would describe as medium-full fizz. The drinkability is low in my opinion as this is just simply not a great beer....aromas are bad, flavors are muted and not great, and leaves behind a cloying sweetness that reminds me of must.....months old apples that have overstayed their welcome in the fruit bowl. If you want to enjoy an apple beer...stick with a proper cider and bypass this mess.
