6.3% ABV. IBU: 25 SERVING TEMP: 3-5°C
INGREDIENTS: Water, Malted barley, Oats, Wheat, Hops, Yeast
STYLE: New England IPA
GLASSWARE: GLB Crown Viking

TASTING NOTES Sultana Solero pours a tarnished gold with snowy white head. Papaya, mango and white grape are prominent on the nose, while sweet peach and nectarine are the most prominent flavours picked up with each sip. Creamy with some micro effervescence, Sultana Solero has a ripe tropical candy finish.
FOOD PAIRINGS Quiche with gruyere, granola with dried fruit, and oatmeal/golden raisin cookies.
ADDITIONAL Did you know that farmers sometimes grow brand new strains of hops? Well, they do! Or at least that's what they tell us. Sultana tastes like a galaxy of pineapple, and Solero is like a universe made up of a big bag of tropical jellybeans, a product that we can only assume exists. As for the rest? You know the drill, it's a NEIPA!

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the University Ave. West LCBO in nearby downtown Windsor. Packaged September 5/24. My fourteenth beer from the Etobicoke, Ontario brewery, and fourth for 2025. With Gracie the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Sep 28 2023 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a muddled yellow-orange colour, producing at least two fingers of soapy, foamy white head that gradually dissipates over the course of five-plus minutes. A meandering coat of messy lace clings to the glass, with a frothy collar remaining in place - looks good so far, and the aroma is also intriguing. I'm mainly getting tropical fruits - pineapple, passion fruit and especially mango, with lesser notes of tangerine, juicy overripe peach and berries.

Its flavours overlap with the aroma: juicy at the front end, with mango, stone fruit and passion fruit coming through; this is followed by hints of mango and citrus pithiness later on, with a touch of piney bitterness at the conclusion. Off-dry aftertaste. Medium in body, with low carbonation that limply brushes the palate; the texture is soft and smooth. Pretty drinkable for over 6% - I'd have happily gone for seconds.

Final Grade: 4.05, an A-. Sultana Solero marks yet another strong IPA effort from Great Lakes - they've had a lot of practice at this, and while I wouldn't say it has made this beer perfect, it's still a head above the vast majority of hazy Ontario IPAs that you can find at the LCBO. Juicy flavour profile, with the Solero and Sultana hop strains - both being relatively uncommon varietals - putting a unique spin on an otherwise familiar template. I might take this over their Hazemama, but I think Thrust! has a leg up on this one. It's absolutely worth seeking out and trying, as fresh as possible of course. Cheers!

First things first: this beer is 6.3% ABV, not as stated in the description.
Pours quite carbonated and orange in colour. The nose is a mix of fruit, bubble gum and malt. The taste is disappointing. Muted, bitter, with malted mango taste. Over-carbonated.
Great Lakes is not exactly at the forefront of high quality IPAs, getting all too close to mass produced macrobrew territory, but even they have better than this.
Not horrible, but one can is more than enough of this.

A-Hazy dark yellow with a sudsy white head atop.
S-Some fruit notes in the aroma but I get a lot of yeast and sour layers
M-Lower end carbonation with a puckering mouthfeel and watery body
T-Dry upfront with an acidic aftertaste in the bitterness and an assertive unripe pompelmo flavour
O-Decent, but not great for me.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.60CDN. Listed at 6.3% ABV.

Appearance - Hazy gold/orange color topped with two fingers of dense fluffy and long lived white head. Great lacing streaks left behind too.

Smell - General sweet fruitiness with some citrus mixed in. A touch of mixed berries with an orange mango combo.

Taste - Medium bitterness with some juicy fruity aspects again there's a nice dichotomy between the orange and mango citrus with some lighter berries feathered in.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with a slightly creamy feel. Easy to drink. Fairly juicy.

Overall - Another very well done IPA from Great Lakes, delicious, well rounded and eminently drinkable.
