473 mL can from the LCBO, one of three 'new' IPAs in GLB's Good Karma four-pack. Dated Apr 20 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a hazy golden-blonde colour, producing an inch of soapy, foamy white head that falls back over the next four or five minutes. A lovely coat of arcing lace sticks to the glass afterwards, with a bubbly cap and frothy collar living on - looks great so far. The aroma is floral and resinous, with hints of dank weed, wheaty grains, freshly cut grass and pine.
It's a quality brew - pretty clean for an IPA and also quite tasty, but perhaps a bit lacking in variety. There's a backdrop of bready wheat & flaked oat sweetness, with flavours of citrus, weed and grassy hops layered atop. Suggestions of tropical fruit later on, with resiny, floral hops and piney bitterness bringing up the rear; bitter aftertaste at first, but there's also a verdantly green/grassy quality that comes through as it dries off. Medium-full in body, with brisk, lively carbonation that adds a decent bite to this pale ale's smooth, slick mouthfeel. Oh, and like all of GLB's single IPAs, it's supremely easy to toss back.
Final Grade: 4.1, an A-. Karma Cryo seems less complex and/or more sterile than the other Karma variants - I could argue that it's a step behind the others, but it's still a very good IPA in its own right, so I'm not inclined to complain any further. I'd drink it again, and it's definitely worth a look - especially if you're already into the whole 'cryo' fad, but I think most hopheads can consider this a safe pick-up.
