Door County Cherry Ale pours an amber color with a nice lacing head. There is a tart and sweet cherry like aroma. The taste has mellow but tarty and sweet cherry flavors. Body is good, but a little bit weak and watery. Overall its a nice mellow but enjoyable cherry flavored beer.

Poured a nice ruby red, but had little head, and no retention. Smell was of cherries, but it was light and reminded me of a cherry pop. Taste was pretty watery, but did have some cherry presence, just wasn't my taste. Mouthfeel was incredibly light, high carbonation. Not so good for drinkability. I think this is one of the few misses coming from this brewpub, they've got excellant service, great food and grog to boot, but this one misses the mark.

on tap at the downtown Dane
appearance: served in a pint glass...bright garnet-mahogany body, foamy beige head...nice appearance
smell: My notes say the following "tart cherry vs buttermilk biscuit"...also some strong bready notes, sweet and toasted, vinous aromas
taste: tart cherry flavour dominates, strong bready tones, buttermilk biscuit is big, got sort of a cough syrup feel to it, toasted malt...ehh, prolly wont get this again
mouthfeel: tart, medium body
drinkability: decent

appearance: I am given the beer in an imperial pint sporting a big, fluffy whitish pink head. After it slowly recedes, a thin layer of bubbles and light lacing are left behind. The beer itself is a medium reddish amber in color.
smell: Dark red cherries rule the aroma. As I hoped, the cherry aroma is natural and not fake and syrupy. Behind the cherries I find some hints of a grainy sweetness. Seems to be well balanced so far.
mouthfeel: The carbonation is on the lower side of the high range, and smooth. The beer is medium in body.
taste: On the tongue I first find a blend of moderately tart and sweet cherries. Behind this are bland flavors of a slight breadiness and some sweet, lightly toasted grain. No hop flavor really noticeable, and a very light bitterness. Finishes with flavors of fermented cherry pulp. Not bad but slightly one-dimensional.
drinkability: ok

Light and mild. Pale scarlet body with a nice pinkish head. Full cherry aroma. Flavor is light and crisp with only the hint of tartness or sweetness. Fruit is very light but honest and real. Dry finish. Very drinkable but rather too mild and dull. Not exciting enough for me but perhaps enjoyable for a newer craft beer convert.
Update - 9-11-2007: Much better this year. The cherry flavor is much deeper and richer. Still light bodied but there is slightly more robust character and a touch more tartness. I'm bumping the taste score rom 3 to 3.5.

This arrived as a beautiful scarlet color with a pink head. The cherry absolutely jumped out on the nose! This turned out to be very intense in the mouth as regards the cherry. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a tart flavor, vice sweet. It was extremely dry in the mouth and the sour cherry lingered well after the finish.
