Thanks to jcwattsrugger for bringing this back from VA!

Pours slightly hazed reddish copper with a thin head that descends to a bare wisp. Some dots of lacing slide down the glass.

The smell is of caramel, some grassy notes - An underlying sour throws it off.

The taste is of caramel, some sour notes, a distant bitterness in the finish.

Light-bodied - a bit fizzy.

The name of this seems like it was going for a close representation of Old Speckled Hen. It didn't get there. Disjointed with some sour notes between the caramel and touch of bitter. On its own - still, not very good. Not undrinkable, and might have some characteristics of an English ale if you think about it, but not much of one.

12 oz. bottle, brewed in single barrel batches, as are all their brews. Designed as their version of Old Speckled Hen, which I've never had, but here we go. It pours into the nonic a hazed amber with fairly active carbonation and an off-white 1 finger head that leaves a thin blanket and tries to lace the glass. The smell is appealing, with nutty/caramel/buttery malts and some sweet fruits that I can't pinpoint. The flavor has nutty, caramel, and toasted malts with floral/citric hops, and a pretty good bitterness. I'd say it tastes English. It has a medium body with prickly carbonation and it's pretty smooth, but perhaps a little thin. It has high drinkability because it has a full flavor, but it's light enough to drink more than a couple. Good solid attempt from one of the smallest of microbreweries (I have a beerfly review on the way soon.)
