Deep hazy reddish brown body. Decent light tan head. Decent lace as well.

Nose is kinda sweet and almost Belgian-y. Makes me wonder what yeast was used.

Decent taste. Not crazy interesting, but not bad or cheap-tasting either. Drinkable, faintly raisiny and a trace of resiny hops to balance it. True to style except I still think that this is a Belgian yeast strain (making it a lot more like a dubbel or slightly hopped up brune).

Nice and smooth, no complaints here.

Queen City is a tiny dark horse brewery in Staunton. Their stuff isn't even getting much draft distribution, but the beer is good and so is the price point (since they self-distribute.) Worth a try if you're in the neighborhood; it's a bit off the beaten path so you will have to look for it.

A: Nice dark amber color. Very thick and enjoyable head that lingers around nicely. Good lacing as well.

S: The smell of nuts and malts comes across nicely. Slight sweetness in the background as well.

T: Great rich flavor. The taste of roasted malts hits you right away but blends nicely with the hoppy finish. Very enjoyable taste that lingers nicely.

M: OK amount of chew to it. I would have liked something a little thicker, and I was hoping it would be based on the color.

D: Very drinkable. There's a reason I make it a point to get the Bavarian Bock everytime I visit the brewery.

Overall: Overall it's a very good beer. For a small shop, I didn't expect something of this high quality. I would recommend this to any lager drinkers and if you're like me and enjoy dark beers, you should give this a shot... You'll probably like it.

12 oz. with no freshness date. It pours a dark, rusty/brown color with a slight haze, light carbonation, and a finger of off white head that leaves some lacing. It has a pleasant aroma - toasty/caramel malts, dark fruitiness, and perhaps chocolate and bubblegum. It has a medium body with crisp carbonation that becomes full and smooth, and the taste is close to the aroma, but not as pronounced, and with the addition of grains and spicy hops that leave a mild to medium bitterness. Pretty good attempt at a German lager, but could be leaning more toward an Oktoberfest in flavor.
