I bought a sixer of this while visiting over Christmas last year. Last night I had bottle number 380/500. It is the fourth bottle I've had from the sixpack. I'm trying to let it age over this year so that I can sample it as the year goes on, but it's been difficult to not drink it.
It pours a nice reddish chestnut color into a snifter glass. Not much head, with just a slight ring around the edges. Very minimal lacing. However, swirling the glass seemed to refresh the head pretty well throughout the drinking experience.
Smelled sweet and malty. Some brown sugar and dates. Not a lot of hops.
Tasted similar to smell. Quite sweet and malty.
Not overly carbonated and slightly thick mouthfeel. Clean finish.
Overall, IMO, this more of an English Style Barleywine versus an American Barley wine. It was much more like an Old Foghorn than a Bigfoot. I liked this, and will no doubt purchase some of this years batch when I go back to visit .

22 oz. bomber, aged for six months before release. Bottle number 417 out of 500 - talk about limited edition (although you could pay to brew the recipe yourself there if you want to). The guy at the brewery said it was closer to 450 bottles, but they printed "___/500" on the label just in case. It pours a clear crimson with medium carbonation and a small off white head that doesn't get a chance to lace as I keep swirling it in the balloon glass. It smells of sweet malts, melon, cherry, raspberry?, and some floral/citric hops with perhaps a hint of juniper. Very sweet - I believe they add some kinda sugar to the wort to account for that - and it has a good amount of carbonation with a body that becomes very thick and somewhat drying. There are flavors of the above fruits, vinous malts, bubblegum?, piney hops?, and it leaves a long, sweet finish. A fairly good attempt, but there needs to be more naturally-fermenting sugars, and perhaps a bigger dosage of hops. I've got another bottle (#411) to cellar, so I guess we'll see how it handles after some aging.
