Brass Rabbit India Pale Ale

This IPA looks more like a brown ale, so a bit darker than I was expecting (same thing was observed in another beer by this brewery). Decent head retention and lacing, though. Some citrus and banana in the aroma, but the caramel dominates. Alcohol is noticable. Doesn't really taste like an IPA, as this is one malt-forward brew with notes of green apple. Only bittering hops on the finish. The body is ligtht to medium and has ample carbonation, but I couldn't see myself drinking any more of this.

An employee said they have over 100 recipes for this brew-on-premises/production brewery, but it seems like they might be better off doing a better job on fewer styles. Certainly if they're gonna charge about 10 bucks a six pack for "premium" brews such as this one.

Pours copper amber with a thin tan head. A bit of trailing lace sticks.

The smell is herbal - something rather medicinal with a bit of light caramel and a touch of booze. A "different" IPA. Not particularly pleasant, but not completely unpleasant either, I suppose.

Well- it claims on the label to be hoppy, but there is more nutty, caramelish maltiness, even though that is on the lighter side, as well. There is a sour/tart fruitiness and metallic notes. Some tea-like herbal bitterness does show through in the rather abrupt finish (that I'm not complaining about, in this case).

There is a smoothness to it. There is a certain "drinkability" to it, considering I'm not a fan of it. But, just for one - wouldn't seek another. Sweet, a bit sour, light and awkward with a few "detractors" - light, malty - but not a complex maltiness and what's there of the hops come across a touch metallic. Seems like an amateur-ish attempt that isn't "bad", but doesn't work so well, overall.

A-Deep copper with an originally thick light tan head that reduced into a thin cap leaving heavy lacing.

S-Not too much, a little sweet caramel malt with a minimal pop of some light citrusy hops.

T-Better pop in the hops on the palate. Nothing crazy but a decent citrusy twang soon followed by a smooth malty finish. Good hop bite in the aftertaste.

M-Medium-light body with a nice sharp crispness. A refreshing brew.

D-Good...this is a fairly solid beer. A bit lacking in the nose, could use some dry-hopping. But overall a decent effort from this oh so samll brewery. A pleasant discovery from my cellar.

12 oz. with no freshness date - part of their lineup of Rabbit beers. It pours an amber/copper with a slight haze and a finger of off-white head that doesn't leave much lacing. The predominant aromas are apricot, pine, and sweet, almost syrupy malts. There's a lot of sweetness on the palate with the same flavors as above along with a hint of tea, and a mild bitterness considering what they were going for. The body is medium and smooth enough and it has an easy enough drinkability, but it's nothing spectacular. I know they offer a dry-hopped version, but not sure if it was in this bottle. I tasted a sample on-tap and there were aromas and flavors of grapefruit, so I'm thinking that they reserve the dry-hopped version for draught.
