They must have changed the formula since these old reviews. This is a very delicious brew if you like banana. It tastes like candy bananas (but not in a sickening way). I don't know if a full pint of it would be called for, but ending my night (after having 3 other beers of theirs) with a 5 oz of this was perfect.

 

Called a "triple belgian ale" but described as an "abbey style brew" in the fine print, I was a little confused and so is this beer. Expecting a lighter color, it actually poured a deep mahogany with a quickly fading head. Aromas of caramel and spiced apple. Tastes like molasses and pineapple upside down cake with a bit of tanginess finishing with some bitterness. Alcohol is quite apparent. Carbonation is a little low and it is quite cloying taking away from the drinkability. Having trouble getting through this one.

Pours a dull brown with ruby highlights near bottom. A thin, fizzy head immediately disappears. No lacing sticks.

The smell is fo sweet fruitiness and sugar candy (candy canes?) with caramel. Doesn't smell like a "tripel". More like an attempt at a sweet "dubbel"...maybe...

The taste is of sweet (darkish?...more like "artificial") fruitiness and caramel. Alcohol certainly shows. Tastes like caramel and cough medicine with raw alcohol. Slight bready notes do show after it progresses. It has an acidic finish.

It is undercarbonated and thin/watery with an alcohol punch. Sweetness lingers.

Not really a tripel. Maybe...maybe, an attempt at a dubbel. Not a good one though. Too sweet, fruity, and boozy (and watery). Whatever...it sucks. I've had four from this brewery so far, and it seems they have issues with a tart/sour character and missing the style.

12 oz. bottle with no freshness date. It pours a hazed orangey/scarlet hue with medium carbonation, and a quarter-inch of yellowed head that leaves light lacing. The brew smells sweet and fruity, with notes of apples, pears, and red berries. On the palate, there's sweet caramelized fruits, backed by a mild bitterness, on top of a medium, very dry body. Overall a decent tripel - not overly fruity and not too complex, but tasty and worth trying again at some point.
