Appearance:
The beer is high yellow in color and pours crystal clear. A sizable white head is produced from a rough pour but displays some good retention and rings of lace.

Smell:
The scent is a little weak but some pissy hops and a touch of malt sweetness build what little there is here.

Taste and Mouthfeel:
The beer is light and crisp with some up front sweetness in the malts. Mid drink is a total wash of watery nothingness which leads in to a bitter finish with just a kiss of hops. Overall it drinks clean but it's pretty boring.

Drinkability:
There's a little bit more flavor here than your standard macro lager but the drinkability is the same.

Bottom Line:
Out of 3 different beers featured in an Odenwalder mix pack I would say this is probably the most flavorful of them. It's really nothing special though, it's just kind of a whatever beer form me. Pass.

A: Clear golden yellow color with a small foamy head. Some lace. Medium level of carbonation.

S: Grainy smell of malts and earthy. Some sweet corn and husk notes.

T: Medium bodied. Flavors of milled corn and grain with a bready malty backbone. Subtle notes of light hops. Not bad.

M: Medium to light. Easy on the palate. Sharp and crisp. Goes down well.

D: Pretty good. Got this at ALDI. Suprise suprise. Thanks to piecesofflair for the sample.

Notes: Well made, and for the price, a good choice.

Easy to have doubts when you see a 12-pack of previously-unknown German beer for $10.99 at Aldi. But judgement was reserved until I poured...

The color is a very clear and clean-looking golden yellow with a thin head that thinned quickly to a tiny skim across the top.

Mild hops in the nose, with an even milder flower/spice malt element way back there.

Flavors are extremely mellow, with just a kiss of the hops (thanks Schlitz), and a light, airy, flowery essence to the malt. Extremely smooth drinking, a little bit dry and bitter in the finish.

There isn't a ton to say about this beer. It's decent, non-offensive, and easy to drink, but it delivers nothing outstanding either. For the price, it seems a really good buy, delivering better flavor than most others in its price range.

I got this in a New York state Aldi's along with two of its brothers.
The colour of this beer is exceptional, a beautiful and clear deep golden/yellow. Unfortunatly the crown was lacking, only a full island lace and moderate glass ring.
The carbonation is average with large bubbles slowly arcing to the surface.
The taste is very refreshing & rewarding, well balaced with no clear winner.
The nose is lightly grassy.
A very nice brew.

Clear, pale yellow-gold in hue; the liquid is close to looking sickly but it does escape that fate in the end as there is just the slightest amber highlight. There was a steady stream of animation that raced to the white head. At the apex the foam was two-fingers in height. Head retention was excellent, the collection of bubbles refused to move. It took a few moments before the head turned into a thick, soapy cap. The subsequent lacing was unorganized and fairly widespread. Overall this beer looks like I expected it too; true the head retention was impressive. This is a good looking beer… I am just biased against pale yellow liquid I suppose.

The nose is a lovely mix of grain and grass. I like the spicy earthy underbelly. Sometimes hints of caramel and toast emerged plus some marshmallow-like aromas. The nose is soft but rustic and clearly German. The potency is moderate and the articulation is very clear. I like the nose. It is inviting… without saying much.

The palate is nice but fairly mild. This beer is clearly not a Pilsner, it lacks the malt base and hop bite. While this beer is nothing more then an adjunct-free Pale Lager, it is well-made. Crisp and refreshing with mild bitterness plus it is toasty at times, grainy in spots but never harsh or husky. At the finish a light sweetness develops and lingers long enough. Simple and likable… it is far from groundbreaking or special. Of the three beers from the mixed 12-pack this is clearly the weakest (as designed).

Medium/medium-light in body, the carbonation is moderate but cleansing enough. The mouthfeel is lacking, it is kind of watery and boring. The lack of bulk does make this an easy drink, which is not a bad thing.

In other words, this beer is plenty drinkable. Poundable if that is your thing. I like this beer. This beer would be welcomed for BMC drinkers or BA-types that can appreciate a delicate beer. Good for cold cut sandwiches; plus it is damn cheap only $10 for the sampler-pack at Aldi. Cheap or not, it is worth a try. Decent stuff.

Odenwalder Golden Lager pours a golden clear amber from a 12oz dark brown glass bottle with a pry off cap. Head goes to well over three fingers in my 16oz beer tumbler.

Nose is a pleasant rustic German toasted barley malt with the hops having a subtle floral component. Palate is a wonderful rustic German toasted barley malt. The bittering of the light floral hops is well in balance and the finish is with the crisp bight of carbonation.

A good looking and good tasting lager from Odenwalder that goes well with hard salami and bread.

Part of a mixed 12 pack I picked up at Aldi for $9.99. Pours a golden straw color with a nice thick head. Good lacing. Aroma of lightly roasted malts with a little grassiness in the background. Taste is smooth and light with just a little hop bitterness. A good solid lager.

The beer poured into the glass crystal clear pale golden straw with a white and frothy head which rose tall and fell very slowly to lace the glass.

The aroma was light caramel with a low grassy aroma from hops. Some DMS (cooked corn) emerged as the beer warmed.

The flavor was very light and low caramel with a very low bittering level that was just a bit grassy. The beer was not crisp in the flavor and was just a bit fruity.

The finish was even with just a very slight bit of the hops and malt lasting into the aftertaste. The body was medium. The beer was fairly boring, but very easy to consume. Could be a Helles, but the Helles style just doesn't seem right for this one.

12 ounce bottle. Best before 071406. Part of a $10 mixed 12 pack at Aldi.
